But having a lot of hours sunk into Halo CE after I was introduced to it last year, I can say that it is actually really great. It plays well, and Bungie knew what they were doing. Both single- and multi-player are great, and it's surprisingly cerebral. Twitchy CoD-esque game this ain't - you have to choose the right tools for the job and design your angle of approach. The health regen actually adds to the strategy - you have to know when to retreat and heal.
(Except for the Library, I have no idea what they were thinking when they designed that level. I don't think it's an exaggeration to call it one of the worst FPS levels ever, and it's just thrown into an otherwise-great game.)
Also, the story is great and the soundtrack is epic. and . There's more variation in the soundtrack than that, though: for instance .
