Take it from me; being so self-conscious is not a good thing. Heck; I recognize that and can't shake it. But, you can always use that to your advantage; take risks. Put in an application for a job, no matter what, it will give you experience; if not in the actual job, then in being interviewed.
But don't end up like me; being so talkative on here, and being VERY shy IRL, to the point where I've likely missed a few opportunities to make friends and meet people, myself. Don't make my mistakes, take a risk. Heck, you say you've got social skills, already that's better. But nothing ever progresses if risks aren't taken. Start with a job if you want, but having friends is important as well.
