Dvorak has failed to take hold. No one wants to take the time and trouble to learn a new keyboard, especially if it isn't convincingly superior to the old. A few computer programs and special-order daisy wheels are available to transform modern typewriters or word processors to the Dvorak keyboard, but the demand for these products is small. After all, expert typists can can do nearly 100 words a minute with QWERTY . Word processors increase that speed significantly. The gains that Dvorak claims to offer aren't really needed.

The QWERTYUIOP row is also the one with the most vowels, and in contrast, the ZXCVBNM row has no vowels at all.

Touchscreen keyboards annoy me to no end. I can get only about 40 words a minute on my dad's HTC Desire... down from 80 on my Thinkpad.

Well, 1 finger in portrait vs 2 in landscape vs 10 on a full keyboard. Of course its faster on a full keyboard. I'm faster on my tablet than I am on an old mechanical monsrtrousity like everyone seems to love...

I just find the mechanical keyboard superior in feel and speed. I understand that you find touchscreen keyboards to be futuristic, but in reality the only reason for its existence is to save space. I'd never buy a full touchscreen keyboard, unless it has a LOT of other features, and even then, I'd probably still use the mechanical one for most things.

Being futuristic is just a side benefit.
For me, the flatter a keyboard is, the faster I can type on it. My computer setup (laptop+monitor+mouse+keyboard+speaker system) has a very flat physical keyboard (2011 gateway OEM desktop keyboard) and I heart it so much.

Can you post a link to a pic of it?

I do like flatter keyboards, but they have to have a good amount of travel. My laptop's keyboard is just fine for me, providing just enough feedback. A touchscreen keyboard doesn't  provide any feedback.

Ugh, MLNO is really acting up on my phone....

I have autocorrect turned off, because with Swype you don't really need it. And if you clear out your dictionary occasionally, you won't get all the weird typos from incorrect swype patterns
