I know you're tired of me talking about it, but:
I think that Lego might actually be able to save LU by adopting the TF2 model: Free game, in game purchases that are not required even to enhance the gameplay experience.
According to
PC Gamer, the F2P shift for TF2 increased the playerbase by a factor of 5, and the gross revenue by a factor of FORTY.
And this was a game that already made enough that even before F2P they could continue making updates for free years after it came out and still make a profit.
Just my two cents.
