This day will go down in history as the Day Innovation Died.
A US court has not only upheld the validity of apple's patent portfolio, but banned most Samsung android products from sale in the USA due to "willful and blatant" vialotion of apple's illegitimate patents, including:
-pinch to zoom
-a countoured back and a flat front on a mobile device
-a rectangular grid of icons on the "home screen" of a mobile device
-and 5 more
Many Samsung devices are now banned from sale in the US, with the judge and jury both agreeing that Samsung was wrong to deny apples request for payment - at over $30 a device. Normal liscence fees are less than $5 a device, and the $8 Microsoft charges some OEMs for patent liscencing is considered excessive by everyone in the industry. With the judge and jury upholding apples fee as acceptable, apple now plans to raise liscencing fees for those who have already reached a liscencing agreement with them, and "violently" proscecute infringing companiesthat have previously "escaped" their grasp.
Almost all of samsungs defenses and accusations against apple were dismissed as irrelevant, and in fact, apple was found to have commited no wrongdoing in its entire history.
Samsung is making plans to appeal, and apple is making movements to deny appeal rights.
Apple plans to file suit against additional, newer Samsung devices in the "near future"
