MTM: They have other controllers that can be used, you know, like the Wii U Pro controller. The problem is; people seem to be trying to kill off local gaming, aside from Nintendo keeping it around with the old controllers, and the Pro controllers. I wouldn't be surprised if multiplayer was online-only for the PS4 and XBox 720. =/
And the reasoning behind only one or two of the tablet controllers, is, well, cost, and system cost. The system streams the content to the pad controller live; that's why you're able to switch some games to the pad to take to another room. If they were to start streaming the same content to four controllers at once, it'd very likely do a number on the processor. I mean; really. Let's say that each pad screen is 720p. That's four screens you have to individually render, since each person would likely have a different view or inventory screen. And then the final screen, the TV screen, which can go all the way up to 1080p. The system just couldn't handle that.
That said; I don't believe giving the controller a screen was a bad idea at all, unlike most of the haters. It adds a new level of gaming to the mix, just like the DS did for handheld gaming.
Also, I must admit, I do like the fact that the Wii controllers can be used(Which, by the way, is exactly the same conversation we would've had if we were in this situation 6 years ago: the Wii could use the Gamecube controllers, and the Wii controllers seemed horribly gimmicky at the time. A lot of games that actually used it correctly came out in those 6 years, though exactly how many is something that differs between people). I like multiplayer stuff; but I've never had more than one usable controller for stuff since the N64 days, with the slight exception of some PS2 stuff. Yet, now, for some games, I can actually play multiplayer with others(If I can ever get the system), since I have a Wiimote+Nunchuck, and would have a Wii U Pad whenever I get the console. Since that's the bare minimum for some of the multiplayer stuff, I can use multiplayer, though some of the Pad uses are horrible in comparison(Like, you know, acting as support for the Wiimote players in Rayman and Mario).
I'm rambling again, aren't I.
