Oh wow I have 296 hours of DD played. Time to give people advice.

I suggest you do not attempt Nightmare Difficulty until you are certain you know what you are doing, you are Level 74 and above and have the best gear you can get at Level 74 or above. But since you all just started, gear doesn't matter much until it starts getting the 'Godly' prefix around Level 60. Around Level 74, dropped gear starts getting the 'Mythical' prefix, level 78 'Transcendent' prefix, level 83 'Supreme' prefix and level 90 'Ultimate' prefix. You want mythical gear or above for the Nightmare difficulty. The name is no joke. At least, not on the later levels. The DLC maps can be utterly insane with their difficulty and size.  And you will want to have multiple heroes. Earlier on you can get through by having only one hero, but as difficulty increases you will want more heroes for the wider variety of defences that are almost necessary. You will always want an Apprentice or a Squire for the actual towers, a Huntress for the traps, a Monk for the auras, and if available to you, the DLC hero 'Series EV' for the beams, most notably, the 'Tower Buff Beam', in addition to the DLC hero 'The Summoner', for the summoned minions who are not affected by the 'Defense Units', but instead the entirely separate 'Minion Units', giving quite a boost to defenses.

In addition to all that, always take into account the 'Defense Units' of this map. This effectively makes it so you cannot place defences all over the map. Each defence takes up a certain number of defence units, for example a magic barrier takes up one defence unit while a magic missile tower takes up  three defence units. So this means you have to be careful when placing defences. As stated earlier, minions are affected by Minion Units, instead of  defence units, so if you need extra defence, do not be afraid to use the minions of the summoner.
