I agree that hope is what's needed.
And there is hope, in a way, in that a lot of the republicans don't seem to like Trump.
But at the same time, this is also a very uncertain time, and a lot of people -can't- do anything for whatever reason. And adding to that, the progress that has been made in even the past year or so could easily be torn right back down; and fixing that would be easier.
I'm not going to point fingers at anyone at this point, there's been enough of that. Now, I'm just going to mention how this sort of outcome(which was eerily similar to what happened with brexit), is going to harm a lot of people in ways that a lot of people don't seem to care about.
-LGBT+ stuff is going to take a large hit, because the place is filled with Republicans who probably can't wait to tear down the stuff that Obama did well. -In particular, things like gay marriage or any trans protections will likely go down the drain depending on who is appointed to the Supreme Court, and things really seem to be pointing in that direction. -Environmental stuff, from what I was reading earlier, is likely to be altered, but in who knows what way; likely -not- in a way that'll help it. -Economy stuff likely will be affected, even between countries that are right next to the other(and, might I add, one literally connecting between the US and Alaska), if anything touches trade treaties or so. -If health care is touched, that could leave some people high and dry, or just... drive rates up since it'd be right back to the insurance people again. Add in the fact that this would -also- tie into harming trans people, since they'd then be once again more likely to be kicked in the backside rather than be helped out.
There's a whole lot more, but... honestly, I don't want all this to be a case of fear, or anything like that. But I want people to at least try to stand up for this. It'll be a long four years(... assuming that is all it is...), and it'll be very, very scary at times likely. And a lot of people were failed by electing a racist, sexist, bigoted ferret-wearing president... but it can be survived. I just hope there's things left in what matters at the end of it. I might be Canadian, but with all of my friends who would be affected to, I can't just stay quiet and watch the fireworks; not when if I was there, I'd be in this mess in the thick of it.
