The Bitter Taste of Victory

Part One: The Beginning of the End

Captain's Log, stardate 50980.3

The Dominion have advanced on out lines, but they are holding. The Sovering-class starship Traveler, powered by the new transwarp drive and equipped with interphasic torpedoes and reactive armor, departed from Starbase 247 on it's maiden voyage: To find a Dominion telescope array deep inside Cardassian territory and to destroy it. Interphasic cloaking technology has also been fitted into it.

--------

The Traveler entered a transward conduit and used it to fly deep into Cardassian space. It's phasers were ready, torpedoes armed, and shields up. Seconds after exiting the conduit, it had activated the cloaking device and waited for reinforcements to arrive.
"This... is a historic day! The day that the tide of the war turns onto the side of the Federation!" Admiral Janeway said, and rose his glass of champagne. The rest of the crew did too, and a torpedo was fired into Cardassian territory, to prove that if needed, Starfleet will attack. And they did.

The conduit opened again, and seven hundred Astara-class fighters flew out at warp. The Traveler joined them, and all of them cloaked. They were closing in, ready to face their first target.
A comm link was established between the Traveler and the lead fighter. The ships stopped, a lightyear away from the array. Just out of reach for the cloaking sensors.
Janeway told the pilot of the fighter his concerns. There were two Planetia-class destroyers powerfull enough to conquer a solar system. They were the defenders of the Dominion fleet. Though expensive and quite rare, they had enough firepower to destroy a planet.

Janeway ordered the pilots to go into a standard attack formation, and to proceed. The Traveler followed, and whiten a few minutes they were at the array. There came the first Federation casualty: A fighter attempting to breach the shields. It was fired at from the array.
The Traveler shot one of it's torpedoes, destroying half of the array trough core breach. The rest just shut down, and the fighters caught it in a tractor beam. Beginning to tow it into the conduit, a destroyer came. A massive ship, perhaps even bigger then a Borg Cube. It was certainly longer... And it was ready to attack.

Whit one strike from it's forward phaser array, it destroyed the tight formation of fighters used to tow large things.
"They're here! Scramble!" Yelled Janeway, locking torpedoes at the ship. Two hundred of them later, the enemy vessel sustained no damage.
"We can't destroy them! We have to go back!" Said the tactical officer.
The big problem about Planetia-class was that it was more like a station then a ship. It was so large that it could only go warp 2. That was about to change...

"Retreat!" Yelled a voice from the Traveler, and most of the ships went into the conduit. Traveler remained, to face of against the Dominion destroyer. Shortly after, it was hit by an energy dissipating weapon... and it's technology belonged to the Dominion...

Notes:
1: This is part one. I had to make it little action, much plot. Some of you might know why I did this chapter like this...
2: Expect a massive chase, a giant explosion and lots of action in the next chapter.
3: If you don't know about the Dominion war, or Star Trek in general, PM me.
4: Review Topic.

Note: How the Dominion can be a fast builder...

Part Two: Unexpected Allies

Stardate 51003.7

Two Borg cubes activated a transwarp conduit, and entered it. At the hub, it was redirected into the Federation transwarp network. But, unusually for the Borg, their mission wasn't one of destruction and assimilation. It was... an offer of alliance. The Borg had detected transwarp activity in the Gamma Quadrant, something that could be indentified as a threat as Planetia class had it's flaws, but it had teeth. Big, bloody teeth.

Of course, first they would attempt assimilation of a Planetia class vessel, with all of it's new reactive armor and interphasic torpedos. It entered a conduit that the Dominion used to travel between networks, and exited into a trabswarp hub. To the borg, it was a large and inefficient complex. The two cubes quickly destroyed the fleet of Jem'Hadar ships guarding the hub. It then encountered a fleet of Planetia class vessels, which opened fire. Seconds later, one of the cubes was reduced to stardust.
The other cube hailed them, firing everything it had at the fleet, and hailed them.
"We are the Bo..." THe other cube exploded into millions of pieces.

A Sphere dropped out of transwarp near Earth. Starfleet greeted it: A transphasic torpedo, but the sphere deflected it with a new technology.
"We are the Borg. However we are not here to assimilate you, as otherwise we would do so allready." The sphere hailed them. On it was a Borg Queen. She teleported onto the bridge of the starfleet flagship, and offered to help in the battle against the Dominon. In return, the Borg would recieve right to assimilate the Prophets and hold the Wormhole, but the Federation would be the last force to fall to the Borg.
After a leinghty discussion, the admiral decided that if Sisko, the Emissary, could get the Prophet's help, the Borg would be destroyed inside the wormhole. But the Borg weren't planning to use it...

Still, an alliance was made. On stardate 51005.1 the combined Starfleet and Borg and a fleet was dispatched to attack the Dominion. A single Dominion ship greeted them. Its configuration wasn't known to the Federation or the Borg, and it was hundreds of times larger then a cube, but the assault was lanchued. Federation fighters moved in, and the Dominon vessel sent a larger, stronger fleet to greet them. Not a single Starfleet officer survived, and the entire Seventh Fleet was reduced to a field of debris. It was the Borg's turn to move in. The fleet started weakening the shields of the enemy and it sent hundreds of spheres trough every gap they created in the shields. The spheres shot all they had, and even lanchued suicide attacks at the massive enemy, but they barely stratched the surface before both the cubes and the spheres were destroyed.

Towers appeared on the hull of the ship and tractor beams emitted from them gathered the debris fr salvagable parts. On the next encounter with the enemy, the ship will be stronger... and then it will conqur the Alpha Quadrant in a single strike.
The dominion fleet gathered around the ship, and they waited for their new allies, the Breen and the Cardassians to come.

To be continued...

Note: Still setting the stage.

Part Three: Little Breen Men

The next day...

"Sir, Cardassian lines have fallen back! They are in full retreat!" A lieutenant JG entered the observation lounge of the USS Galaxy. The three admirals and Captain Sisko inside the lounge dismissed him, and continued talking about something. On the starboard PADD screen, a Borg drone could be seen, who was listening carefully. A voice from it, and the entire collective, came:
"It is a trap. If we attack Cardassia now, the Dominion will be able to send a full scale attack on the rest f the Alpha Quadrant. That new class has enough weaponry to pulverize a planet."

Sisko agreed, and ordered the first, third, seventh and eight fleets to defend Sector 001, along with the Klingons and Borg.
The drone objected, because if all of the cubes would be stationed in such a small area, they could all be destroyed. But all of that was disturbed by the opening of five conduits. Out of four of them came the combined Federation and Klingon fleet, while out of the other came the Dominion, all of it's weapons allready locked...

"Fortune favors the bold." Said one of the admirals. The Klingons broke formation, and went for the massive destroyer. Sisko ran to the Defiant, and the fleets assembled.
Sisko gave a quick plan to the borg. He told them to surround the Dominion forces while a squadron of Defiant-class ships would begin oblitarating the fighters.

A Breen energy dissipating weapon struck the station, and a few more shots destroyed it. Sisko didn't look back at it, and wasn't surprised. The Breen have a habit of allways destroying the big ones first. Sisko asked for the status.
Plain, simple Garak answered with... A discuraging report, noting that the Borg blasts were almost useless, only destroying a few of the main ship's phaser towers.
"Don't be so negative... That's at least better them what we were able to do..." Said Bashir, and returned to his post.

The Defiant got hit by a few torpedos, causing hull breaches on decks 2 and 3. A torpedo took out their forward shields, and now they were vulnerable. Hull breaches spreading from the stress, the Defiant soon lost it's weaponry and communications, and life support was barely functional...
"We aren't going to make it..." Said Bashir quietly, obviously underestimating the Cardassian senses, as Garak replied: "Now who's being negative..."

The Defiant took one more hit, disabling all of its systems. Life support was failing, too. Sisko, however, took out a manual controll console and depressurized half of the ship, killing the crew in the aft part, but sending the Defiant on a collision course with the enemy destroyer...

Meanwhile, on Earth, the Breen had invaded and had destroyed most of San Francisco, and were heading to the extermination of the Federation and all other forces in the Alpha Quadrant.

Part Four: In the Heart of the Enemy

The Defiant was now adrift, life support down and the crew unconscious, and some dead. The warship smashed into the enemy destroyer, causing a hull breach on both vessels. When the Dominion closed the gap with a force field, the Defiant was inside one of the fighterbays trough the doors of which it carshed.
For short, it was massive. Seven Cardassian destroyers were inside, levitating on a magnetic field. The Jem'Hadar quickly entered the Defiant's wreck, and took those who were alive as prisoners... and the Defiant? They towed her into one of the repair docks...

Meanwhile, thoushands of destroyed defensive platforms was adrift in orbit of Earth, some falling onto the blue planet. Nobody above them was aware of what was happening beneath the clouds...
A Breen fighter moved left, and shoot its phasers at the Starfleet Communications building somewhere in New York. It dodged a few torpedos from a Galaxy class ship flying above, just before Federation atmospheric fighters joined into the battle. Another city would soon lay in ruins...

A squadron of Jem'Hadar fighters destroyed the Galaxy class ship, and watched as the Breen attack the Federation fighters. It was a spectacular fight, buildings destroyed in the process until the Breen had won and New York was reduced to ruble. The only large building left standing was Empire State Building, as it served as a comm antenna and the Breen had sabotaged it to create a jamming signal for communications...
Things seemed hopeless for the Federation, and the next target to the Dominion's most powerfull allies was Los Angeles...

Back in the final fronter, Ezri Dax woke up in a cell she shared with the rest of Defiant's senior staff, Garak, Kira and Nog. The others woke up allready, but Dax took more time.
A Vorta and two Jem'Hadar entered the prison, and took away Sisko. They had nasty phaser machineguns, so Sisko didn't resist.
A Jem'Hadar guard ate his bar of Ketracel-white, and looked at the cell.
Suddenly, he shapeshifted into Odo.
Kira Nerys was happy to see Odo, and when he turned of the force field of the cell, she ran to him and hugged him. Odo said he wasn't in his bucket for a long time and that he looks forward to buying a latinum bucket from Quark.

The group departed from their cell and crawled into what you could call a Dominion Jefferey's tube, taking rifles and batteries with them. They went to save Sisko. For one last time, they yelled
"FOR THE ALPHA QUADRANT!". knowing that the Dominion would hear them all over the ship and that they would be afraid, or at least as close a Jem'Hadar can be to 'afraid'.

Part six: Lifeline

Sisko droped to the floor, his ees bleeding. A Cardassian torture device was attacked to the back of his neck, and worse, it was at full power. He couldn't see anything but a faint shape in the darkness, untill the room was illuminated by phaser fire.
Half a dozen Cardassian soliders were killed in a short but deadly fight, but more were coming.
Kira Nerys jumped in, caught Sisko's arm, and pulled him out of the room into a supply closet. There the rest of the survivors from the Defiant were, phasers ready to defeat any treath.

"Sisko! It's been two hours since we started searching for you... Let's go." Odo said.
"T... t... two hours?" Sisko said. It seemed more like a lifetime.
But there was no time for conversation. A disruptor melted the doors, and in a flash their were all exposed to those green balls of energy. Kire and Odo took the offensive this time, however, and started blasting Jem'Hadar apart...

Meanwhile, on Earth...
A Breen descended upon Los Angeles, phasers turning the defenses to dust as the citizens scrambeld. Extermination was the word playing in the minds of the ruthless and evil Breen pilots, and that's what they were doing. A quanum torpedo oblitarated a Starfleet building, turning it to a pile of rubble. Guards attacked, sure, but like what happed to every other defense grid, it failed, with disasterous effects...
A massive dogfight in the sky suddenly started as an incredibly daring member of Section 31 launched an experimental shuttle out of a hangar bay and started oblitarating the Breen, but his defense was short lived, and so was he.

To be finished, as I am at school now...

Part Seven: Downfall (Note: I needed to chose between Descent and Downfall, and chose Downfall)

A robotic arm took a chunk of the Defiant's scorched ablative armor, sparks flying from the friction. Her hull was pretty much destroyed and powers were down, but the Vorta supervisors were happy that those disgusting human corpses were out of it and incinerated.t heir ashes airlocked in space. A sole ventilation opening was Sisko's way into the Alpha Quadrant's most powerfull warship. It was a hard fight to the hangar bay against a small army of Jem'Hadar. While Sisko didn't know that the Breen were rampaging trough Earth, he did know that they were rampaging against Starfleet and their Borg allies. The group quickly got to the bridge, now just a frame held by force fields and a piece of bubble gum onto he floor.

"Good, they sent all of their guards to search for us. It will be a while before they find us. Now, can someone fix anything around here?" Sisko said. He sat on his burned chair and saw a robotic arm in front of him. It seemed that a certain Jem'Hadar operator was trying to get a certain piece of equipment. He got a disruptor blast in his face, that blew up the arm and him. But the Defiant was in no flying condition... she wasn't even in any condition. Sisko sent O'Brien and Nog to search for supplies. As they ran down onto the magnetic deck, the metal stairs collapsed and they fell down. Suddenly, sparks started to fly all around the hangar, and fighters deployed. The massive hangar doors opened, and as the fighters scrambled to fight against the attackers, they were all destroyed by some torpedo's. The shockwave knocked the Defiant into the wall of her magnetic repair station, into one of the labs. Federation fighters scrambled into the hangar before the doors closed.

To prove how massive the hangar actually was, a Miranda-class starship entered it and shot phasers at the walls, damaging the massive destroyer even more. The phaser blasts broke trough the hull and the Jem'Hadar were forced to detach the hangarbay. It's not like they didn't have seven of them, plus the main one in the primary hull, but they weren't happy to lose the Defiant and lots of technology. The Miranda-class starship, called Orion teleported aboard all of people from the Defiant, along with Nog and O'Brien, and towed her out of the hangar with a tractor beam just before the reactor of the ejected hangarbay exploded. It threw the Defiant out of Orion's tractor beam and catapulted it toward Earth. What caused it to crash in New York and destroy Empire State Building, removing the jamming field,  nobody knows, but now Starfleet shot single weak phaser blasts to take out the Breen, who were rampaging over London.

While the battle against the Dominion's flagship was mostly unsuccessfully, the Orion's braketrough being the only victory against it, many of the Cardassian and Dominion other ships have fallen, and the Breen were destroyed. Starfleet suffered heavy loses, though, an entire fleet of Galaxy and Sovering class ships was obliterated, or dead in space and captured. The Borg held their lines well, and the unexpected arrival of the Romulans and Kilingons, who were hoping not to be involved in the war but decided to protect their side of the galaxy alongside each other and the Federation, turned the tide of the battle. Finally, even the Cardassians turned against the Dominion, and the combined fire finally had effect on the Jem'Hadar warship's shields, which weakend. The ship self destroyed itself, but not before a small ship exited it and entered transwarp...

Later that month the Borg were fought off to the Delta Quadrant, and the Alpha and Beta Quadrants stood united before the tides of death that the Dominion, and perhaps the entire other side of the Milky Way, brought...

To Be Continued.
