The Iconians controled a vast interstellar empire 200000 years ago. The key to the control was a system of extremly advanced transporters, now called the Iconian gateways, that allowed them to transport from system to system using no starships.

Two of these were found in the galaxy: One on the Iconian homeworld by the United Federation of Planets and one on a planet in the Gamma Quadrant by the Dominion.

However, a group of Jem'Hadar, not following the commands of the Founders, captured the one in the Gamma Quadrant and blew up a docking pylon of the space station Deep Space Nine in a raid to get equipment to complete the gateway.

Benjamin Sisko, in command of DS9, went with the USS Defiant to find the Jem'Hadar responsible, but he found a damaged Dominion warship. Weyoun, on that warship, explained the situation and the two enemies allied themselves to find and destroy the disloyal Jem'Hadar and anihilate the gateway. But when they came there, there was a problem. The building the gateway was in was made of a substance that even a direct hit from a quantum torpedo might not destroy.

What is that substance, for 5 Borg points?
