O_O
Everything except science, math, history and maybe english (Who the heck needs to know what part is the clause and the restrictiveness of said clause?) are really essential to your life. I think if public schools trashed everything else you'd get 3 hours of class and get to go home. And you'd actually be smarter because you'd have more brainpower to absorb the info. 'Course, you'd have free time to waste...And most people wouldn't be inclined to build something. Find more ways to get a new DS game.(Phmphf.)
I was in public school for a week... I think in the total 35 hours I was there, I learned more in 1 hour of homeschooling. Amazing...
Fact: I don't play video games. Or watch TV. Or have a cellphone. I have a generic MP3 player. That's it.
I'm british...
Despite what you believe, English, Science and Maths are the CORE SUBJECTS here-they ARE essential. As in, they are the most important for getting JOBS. Without jobs, you cannot make money. Without money, you cannot have a successful and good life in this world. I seriously you doubt you learned more in one hour than 35-if that's true, you're probably just reading, not learning. Learning is different from just reading-you need to show that learning through work.
The Humanities (History and geography) are also essential. You need to know the places in your country. You need to know at least the continents and major countries of the world. If you do not, then I do not see how you would get around. If you do not know History, as is often said, you are condemned to repeat it.
Now, for the technologies. ICT is important. Computers are common things. You need to know the basics of said computers. And the complex stuff, too, mainly for work that some people do during work. As in, job work. Documents are important. You need to know the full extent of what they can do, and what they do. Resistant Materials (Design & technology Type A, with all the wood and materials) is needed for basic structure and further development of Motor Skills. As for Food technology, you need to learn the stuff of Common Home appliances and Uncommon home appliances, the foods associated with it and the equipment associated with it, if not, I doubt one would be able to live alone.
Now, for the 'Creative Subjects'. Many people enjoy Art, Music, Graphics (computer art), Texiles and Drama. Creativity is limitless. They test your imagination... and expand it, also allowing you to think in more abstract ways. Art and Music express your creativity through your style-I have not found my music or art/graphics styles yet, but the lessons are helping me find them. Same with Drama.
Physical education is important too. Common Sports, uncommon sports, exercises and fitness. All four of those are covered in it. Without them, I don't think there would be such wide knowledge of sports. Plus, fitness is important for not just 'education', but surviving.
Public And Social Education. This is very, very important. You need to understand the more Adult interior of Publicity and Society. If you don't. how exactly are you going to communicate, how are you going to understand what your town/village/city does? How?
The foreign Languages. Why would you need to learn them? Learning them is a good example of linguistic skills and an extended mind. And besides, hey, you may be forced out your country one day, or take a vacation to a foreign country like France or Spain (IMO preferably spain =P), and it is essential knowing foreign language-it is a very important skill.
Religious Study. You need to know the basic stuff about religion. Do you really want to be cursed by a religious person? I didn't think so. This is avoid problems with it, especially if you are not religious like I am.
And that's all I have to say.
