Vastus
Today I'll be reviewing Vastus, Glatorian Legend and Primary Glatorian of the jungle city of Tesera.
The Canister:
A nice picture of Vastus greets you, and looks very good, very appealing. 52 pieces is decent.
The back of the can is not too interesting(although the pics of Glatorians are better than the winter sets).
The Pieces:
There are some great pieces in this set. Lime green and Dark Green go very good together, and the lime ironman head is nice.
New Pieces:
-Snake Themed Helmet
-Snake Themed Shoulder armour (x2)
-Snake Themed Venom Scythe
-New Arm piece(with holes on the side)
Sadly that's it.
Recoloured/Interesting pieces:
-Lime IronMan Head
-Mahri Tube(with green colouring)
Not much here. Sadly.
The Build:
Building Vastus is only minorly different than an Inika clone. The Chest piece is backwards, with an Inika thigh armour piece on his stomach to add armour. This change is nice, but from the back leaves Vastus a little odd to look at. The legs are not very good, IMO, due to the use of Hordika legs, which I hate. The arms are clones, but the snake armour adds a nice touch to them. The weapon is also different from usual clones.
The spear thingy is held with both hands, which reduces posability a bit, but also adds some cool poses for Vastus. The Mahri tube is well placed here, and adds a lot to the set.
Playability:
Good. It's an Inika clone, so you've got the 13 points of articulation, slightly changed because of the weapon used. Thornax may be hard to aim, but that's okay with me, since Bionicles can jump, so you can put him in out of this world poses to allow him to shoot the explosive fruit.
And there's also the SUPERACTIONFIGUREGAME included with Vastus. Wicked.
Overall:
Pros:
-Snake Theme is excellent
-Not a true Inika clone
-The feet are not the clawed feet(they're the Nuparu Inika feet)
-Colour Scheme is excellent.
-Helmet ranks in top 3 of Glatorian helmets
Cons:
-Hordika legs
-Not too many new/recoloured pieces
-Not well armour from the back
-Weapon and snake theme makes it somewhat hard to pose
Overall I'd rate Vastus as one of the best sets of 2009(well, Canister sized sets).
Although he's hard to pose at times, the overall look of the set counters that and comes out on top. I would definately recommend this set to anyone.
A solid 9/10
