Level 5 Fourth Year Anniversary Combination

Hey everyone, here’s my review of the awesome Bionicle Scopio XV-1.
The first pic is of the box of course, I shot the back but it came out blurry, so I deleted it, hope you don’t mind.
1
Pic #2 is the contents of the box, all 7 bags numbering one to four plus the two instruction booklets, which (fyi) have the sub pictures on each page showing what and how many pieces are required to build the page.
2
Picture #3 is of the pieces needed to build our Hero; they’re in bag #1. Picture #4 is our Hero, whose name escapes me at the moment. Interesting, nowhere in the kit does it mention his name, although I seem to recall he sounds a lot like Warf from Star Trek (Michael Dorn).
So I guess I better ask to complete the review, and the first one that does, gets an MLN item of their choice.
For 5 Bionicle points and the item, what is the name of our Hero?
3
4
Picture #5 is the contents of bag #2, there are four number 2’s, so you need to repeat yourself a few times in this build. But that’s cool, because by the time you get to building it the forth time, you’ll almost be doing it with your eyes closed.
5
Picture #6 is the completed section, as I stated, you have to build this four times.
6
Picture #7 is the most noteworthy in my opinion. I’ve never seen these pieces before. When together they stay together, and it takes some persuasion to get them apart. They swivel and lock and the applications to other models boggle the mind.
7
That’s three down and one more to build…
8
Pictures 9 and 10 are the same, I know, my bad?
So let’s recap, bag one is built and the four bag 2’s are built as well (the four track sections)
So these are the pieces from bag #3. They contain a lot of those noteworthy pieces and when put together, join the four sections of track.
9
10
Pictures 11 and 12 show partial and completed tie in of the four track sections…
11
12
Picture 13 is of the pieces in the last bag, #4. They build the weapon system. Two cannon launchers and a thornax propeller.
13
Picture 14 is a what? Yes, it’s a thornax, and sadly you only get one, but you do get 8 cannonballs.
The thornax is cool and made of a very soft plastic, sponge like and almost Nerf like as well in design.

14
The last bunch of pictures is the completed model, showing its many positions. I can’t wait to show my grandson this one, I think it’s a very cool model, and no, it wasn’t an easy build and it did take some time.
15
The cannonballs are easily loaded into each launcher and are about the size of a small marble and just as capable of rolling away on you (I already lost to a cold air return vent).
16
At the top in the centre, is the thornax launcher, you simply place it between the two jaws, then squeeze to fire it.
17
I had to laugh a few times when I saw Lego’s warning, a picture of a kid with a black eye and a line through it. In other words, be careful, this thing is more powerful then any elastic band
18
Speaking of elastic bands, you get two reds, one’s a spare. It goes on the main mandibles of Skopio so that it may grip another Bionicle figure.
19
I must say this is the most fun I’ve had building a Lego kit lately. It was challenging and despite the seemingly repetitious nature of the build, it was still loads of fun. I have to admit I did make some play noises and roll it around to play for a while (yes, I’m 47; you want to make something out of that?)
Kidding of course, I’ll let you know later when my grandson gets a hold of it as to its real playable properties.
20
Although I highly recommend this model to Bionicle fans, it does have a flaw or two. When attaching our Hero to the Skopio, the front tracks don’t ride perfectly parallel anymore; they’re now off by 3 millimeters. Which doesn’t really effect the movement since the tracks are hard plastic?
So I think I’ll give the Skopio XV-1 a legodac rating of 92%.
Its low, I know, but I also think Lego got a little lazy towards the end when it came to making the instructions clear. Which they did not, in my opinion, make them clear that is.
Still, an awesome fun build and a really cool model. I highly recommend it.
21
Cost is a bit of an issue here as well, though it did not affect my rating of 92%.
$120.00 Canadian is what you will spend if you buy it from Lego.com. You’ll spend more if you buy 4.
22
Don’t forget, this review isn’t complete until we have the name of our hero.

The pilot's/hero's name is Telluris, or at least I think that is who you were talking about. Awesome review man, I would love to get this set, but it's out of my lowly price range =/ BTW did you say you bought 4?!? Or did I read that incorrectly?

Are you sure, I thought this was the character from the movie, and that name doesn't ring a bell, maybe I'm wrong.

Anyways, you read it right, I picked up all 4 today from the post office.

Good observation, I didn't even mention them. Truth be known, the treads are why I bought the models in the first place. You can't buy them seperate yet, and my upcoming planned MOC Diorama of WWII Tanks and infantry wouldn't work well without them. Perhaps Pick-A-Brick will sell them soon.
I don't regret spending the extra money for 3 extra models, for as I discovered, the kit has far more then just cool tracks for tanks and construction equipment.

Woah. Great review LegoDAC!

I have this set and I agree that it is an amazing set. For anyone reading this, the hero's name is Telluris(sadly he didn't make a movie appearence). When you place him into the set in Tank Mode you can lie him down so his legs go backwards, that way they don't get in the way.

I can't believe you bought 4(well, I can, since you provided a pic) but that's pretty cool.

Great review Legodac!

About the tracks, yep, they're pretty awesome! I've been trying to get my hands on some of them lately... I buy from a Bricklink store (I know a very trustworthy seller, and he lives near me so I can just pick it up) and I hope that when he gets more bricks this month there will be some there.

You're thinking of Mata Nui... That's not Mata Nui, that's Telluris. And Telluris isn't a hero. Wink

But very good review, Lgeodac! =)

Thanks buddy, have you built it yet? You could do a review too, just change the -1 to a -2, and thanks for your advice on the legs as well. So Micah was right eh, which means I owe him something.

Thanks pal, do you think your supplier mails to Canada?

@ Blade, Thankyou as well, I knew this one would attract you.
