Minecraft log, _Flipz_ Day 2:
From my base at the bottom of a ravine, I mined down, looking for redstone.  I indeed found it, but I also discovered Lapis, iron, and...an abandoned mineshaft.  While looting the chest I found (literally, the first part of the mineshaft I found), I was ambushed by zombies...coming from a spawner.  that's right, I found a Dungeon AND a mineshaft.  AND I managed to kill my first Enderman.  With a stone sword.  Oh yeah. 'Cause I'm awe-some!!!  cool cool cool

I jumped on, and I must agree, the place is a LOT of fun.  The spells in particular are great, once I learned Teleport I was zipping all over the map.

EDIT:  Cry this sucks. minecraft locked out both my email accounts and my credit card. won't let me in, its asking me to send a scan of my driver's licence and a paystub to some website.......

so i guess i'm not getting minecraft. ever.

That's...bizzare.  For me, it was simple and straightforward.  Does your credit card have an issue with foreign transactions?  (Because Mojang's financial company is in London.)

Three tips:
Turn off "fancy graphics" (the transparency really causes slowdown)
Turn the render distance to "short" (tiny is downright unplayable)
Stay away from water.  For some reason, it causes lag like nothing else.

EDIT: and if you find something that's both good and cheap, link me to it, please; this thing really deserves to be put out of its misery.

I can't go on Minecraft without going on Creative.
I am currently building a Near-Apocalyptic world. It has lots of Bio-Domes, Bunkers and Space Ships.

There's a creative server that I also go on, but it's whitelisted. If anyone wants to join, I can tell the server host your username.

Also, to access the IRC for the economy server, go to http://webchat.quakenet.org/ and put Strallo as the chat room name. You can use that site to see if the server is on and you can chat with people on the server.

Yes.  ANYTHING getting in the water seems to cause massive lag.  Including passive mobs.  Including squid. >_<  If the water is, like, only a couple of blocks deep, you'll be fine, there just seems to be a problem with deeper water eating up processor cycles, at least for me.
