A tip for better photography - use a tripod. When you rely on your hand to hold and shoot the camera, you will most likely get a lot of motion blur in your photos. With a tripod, your camera is on a steady base, and you can use the timer function to make it so that the camera takes a picture automatically without you having to touch anything.
For closeup shots, never use the zoom function because it'll rarely work well. The macro function (denoted by a flower on your camera) enables your camera to take clear close up pictures.
Thanks for the tips, I could've sworn I had macro on. But I wasn't using a tripod... I think I have one somewhere. I'll keep that in mind.
