IC (Rakoua):
I got to Pavlov's office as fast as I could.

[Flipz]

--Midori and Etain's quarters--
Just then, the door chimes.

--Pavlov's office--
Kaze and Rakoua arrive at exactly the same time.  In exactly the same spot.  At exactly the same speed.  The collision knocks them to the floor, but they both dust themselves off and enter.

"Ah, Cadet Hikari, right on time.  Almost.  Well, hey, I've never been that great with deadlines myself, so why should I inflict them on others."  He smiles.  "Anyway, I wanted to give you your assignment.  Today you will be oberving me, helping me respond to any shipboard incidents that occur.  If everything stays quiet enough, I might even have time to give you a few hours at Tactical before the end of your shift.  So, please, have a seat," he said, indicating a small chair on his side of the desk.
"As for you, Mr. Rakoua...when I heard the reports that Slender Man had broken up the fight during yesterday's...incident...I could scarcely believe it.  But lo and behold, the holocam footage clearly showed you, shoving fighters apart with long tentacles.  I have to say, I'm impressed.  Technically I should put you on probation, but all things considered, I think I'll give you a minor commendation instead."  He grinned broadly.  "I'll be blunt.  Your record shows a preference for command.  I'm hoping I can change that.  Security and tactical is a very exciting field, and one that would have many opportunities for you and your talents...but frankly, I'm asking because you'd be a huge tactical advantage in my security team."

OOC: That's Pavlov asking, not me.  He...well, he's obviously heard of Odo's successes at Deep Space 9.

[Rakoua]

IC (Rakoua):
"Alright, I will join your security force." I said, thinking "Well, anything is better then engineering..."

[Flipz]

OOC: Expect everyone to try and steal you for their own department.

"Great!  Now, to start off, let's go check out the brig.  A little surprise inspection."  He gestured for the two cadets to follow him out of the office.

[Rakoua]

IC (Rakoua):
"Alright..." I said and followed Pavlov.

Kaze nodded, as he followed Pavlov quickly.

As Pavlov and the ensigns approached the aft turbolift, they saw a pair of Engineering ensigns blocking it.
"Sorry sir.  We had a little trouble with one of the turbolifts earlier, and Lieutenant Norton had to shut the whole system down to recalibrate.  You'll have to use the Jeffries tubes."
"Understood.  Come on, Cadets, looks like we're taking the long way."
As Pavlov led the group through the Jeffries tubes, the group slowly became aware of odd sounds emanating from the section above a corridor near the backup bridge.
"Cadet Rakoua, you take point.  Scout ahead and find out what we're dealing with."  He hands Kaze a phaser.  "Glad I always keep a spare.  Setting 2, Cadet.  Let's not take any chances."

[Rakoua]

IC (Rakoua):
"Alright." I said and went ahead, keeping quiet and trying to find anything hostile.

Kaze nodded, accepted the phaser, and turned the second setting on, as he held it to the side and walked forward slowly.

[Flipz]

--Jeffries Tube--
Rakoua noticed a small replicator unit jury-rigged into the circuitry.  The panel access into the corrior has been removed, and a male voice is muttering softly.

Kaze cautiously moved forward, and raised the phaser slowly, just in case.

IC Etain:

-==IC: Guinan and Midori==-
"Hello, Etain.  Care for some breakfast?  How about you, Midori?"
Midori started at the woman's knowing her name.
"It's OK, I'm Guinan.  Ship's bartender, at least until the other guy gets out of sickbay from yesterday's incident."  Seeing Midori's continued hesitation, she added, "Kaze's on-duty until 1400 hours, so..."
Midori looked to Etain, who gave her a thumbs-up, and then nodded to Guinan.
"Great!  Lemme show you this new place that just opened up."

OOC: You know, I think the Fool's Errand will be making an appearance in later chapters.  Thanks, MSRR, I've been looking for a reason to haul it out of mothballs and finally finish that refit I've been planning for the last forever.  Thanks!

I started looking for the source of the voice.

--Jeffries Tube--
As Rakoua crept closer, he could make out words.  "...lock me out...systems...better than he does...show him..."
The circuit to activate the replicator seems to be incomplete.  The unit itself seems to have been jury-rigged to accept only input from the activation circuit.  Presumably the replicator has been reprogrammed for a single function, to be triggered by said input.  A coil of wire is lying next to the replicator, and a power tap has been exposed, to serve as the replicator unit's power supply.

Kaze frowned, as he moved forward slightly, holding the phaser in front of him to quickly fire if he needed to.

[Rakoua]

OOC: So a person has to activate it?
IC (Rakoua):
I shapeshifted into a surface of the walls, preparing an ambush for whoever did this.

[Flipz]

-==IC: Sulu==-
Hans Sulu finished wiring up the proximity scanner; it would now respond ONLY to Lt. Norton's commbadge signal.  He climbed back up into the Jeffries Tube to connect the sensor to the replicator's activation circuit.

Kaze frowned, as he inched closer.
Why does the echo of that voice sound almost familiar...? Kaze thought, as he continued to move closer to where Rakoua was.
