After I escape test chamber 18 and the room where the robots are shooting at me...a while later, there's a room with three generator-things.
And by robots you mean the turrets. And by chamber 18, did you mean chamber 19? Could you take a screenshot?
I meant, he has to use the technique he learned in Chamber 15. ;-) That room is a bit nonintuitive at first, since the distinct visual cue isn't there this time, it's shifted to a slightly different form.
EDIT: If you remember, it's just before the first missile room.
