PS is great. I have a lot of styles I made on it. Also you should really try Lokas 3D Maker, it's a very simple 3D tool plug-in for PS but it works perfect.

Ps is pwn.

I think my version (CS3 Extended) has 3D stuff on it, I haven't tried it out though.

Yeah the problem with teaching yourself a program as massive as PS, especially the extended version, is that you miss some stuff that doesn't make sense to you off the bat.  I'm hoping to take a PS class next semester. 8)

I have Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop 5, both pretty nifty. I'm pretty newbie to Photoshop, cuz I don't master great affects and all, but with a little tutorial or experimenting, I can recognize some filters and functions in PS.

The things I generally do in PS is colorize art, make the banners that I use here and on BZP, and just practice graphics. Every once in a while I make a birthday present for someone. But someday, someday I will master graphics in PS...

My STGOH animation had only 35 frames, but I ended up with 44 layers from all the edits I had to do. =P

I made that last year, and just recently found a method to make much smoother animation.  Haven't had a chance to use it yet...

Yeah pretty much.  It helps to mess around with the program to get a general familiarity with it before you go out looking for tutorials, otherwise you may not understand what they're talking about.  But I like figuring out stuff on my own than looking at tutorials, it makes me feel like it's really mine.

It's not my technique, I found it in a tutorial a while back, which doesn't seem to exist anymore.

That was my first attempt, so it's pretty easy to tell it involves liquify. :P

Nice, I like how you put the DH symbol in there.  How do you make the awesome font?

I designed it using my mad art skills. =P

To draw it I start in paint because paint's terribly pixelated nature makes it easy to make things mathematically exact.  Then I blow up the rez in Ps and go over it again with lines.  Then I do whatever with it so it goes with the graphic I'm making. 8)

Nice lightning, but if you look at it really, it doesn't look realistic in shape. Great design, but I thing that they should not look too much like a nebula with lights in it. Or something.
Make it one continous lightning bolt.

The light purple stuff is there to make it not look like it's lightning from a clear sky. It's its discontuinity (Is that even a word) that bothers me. It's lack of unity will be it's undoing.

Also, discontinuity is a real word and this is how it is spelled.

You need to cut out the difference cloud 'smoke' around it, to make it more defined. Like this:

Anyway, even if my lightning isn't in the right position, you could still try getting rid of some of the excess smoke.

Add could rings on the planet and it could be Jupiter. Make the rings bigger and it could be Saturn. In any way, I like the effect...
But why is the comet on fire?

Yeah, there's no oxygen in space, meaning no fire.   ::) 

What did you think of the one i made?

Neither is there friction that would cause it to glow like that.
It is supposed to be ice white, with mall particles of ice in its trail, not fire.

Also, I believe the trail is supposed to face the direction opposite of the sun.

It looks like the two effects weren't made on that background. Similar to how when you in paint change the background color of a text, it looks out of place.

The red is more visible, but the silver/black is more metalic.

BTW I'm not sure if what I said was confusing - "Distort" was the text with which I replaced the original text (you can sorta make it out under the rose), but I did use a distort filter on it - polar coordinates, one in each direction.  Plus a couple other filters to give it that effect.

I would:
a - spherize the planet
b - make the glow less
c - shade the corner of the planet
d - add a lens flare where the shading isn't

O.K, because I am a n00b, I don't even have photoshop, much less know how to use it. However, I was wondering; Can you add stuff to a movie in photoshop (like, say, a boulder chasing you) so you don't have to get a boulder chasing you? (IF, that is, you wanted to be chased by a boulder).

No (unless you want to do it frame-by-frame). For that, you should get something like final cut (which I have), and use blue screening effects. You'll have to make the boulder yourself though...

How do you get different colours from in-picture Filters? Do you have to use different layers?

Is there a way to import a movie into PS3E's animation system?  If there was, it'd be pretty easy to animate using timeline animation.

What's Final Cut?  I use Adobe Premiere Elements, and it does bluescreen/greenscreen...

Final cut is a program like elements (I would assume), but it's made by apple. I have FC express, but FC pro is actually used by TV shows to publish them.

Not entirely Photoshop, but I was just messing with stuff in The GIMP, and... well in certain stuff it has a little preview, and I did a combo of what's called "Swirl-Tile", "Line Nova", and I went to the preview of "Lighting Effects", which I had used on a previous try at this. And, well... The result is a very interesting one, because of the unintentional patterns that I found =P It's like how something can look one way that would be normal, but is a different way at a different size.
/EDIT: ... And the funny thing is; It doesn't even look the way it did in the preview with all the crazy patterns in the thing after I applied the Lighting Effects filter xD

What button/button-combo is it to do transparancy? :-\

If you want a transparent background, double click the Background layer and hit Enter.  This will make it a movable layer, at which point it can be deleted or sections of it erased to reveal transparency.  All other layers above the background, erase to reveal transparency.

If you have a full version of Ps you can also use layer masks (Layer>Layer Mask), where you brush with black to make transparent and white to bring back the layer.  This avoids deleting any data.

And whatnot. =P

Some people do. Others use paint or stuff. I'm working on a new simple one.

Agreed.  And Tim/MsRR, it's not a big deal this time, but I will explain why it is important so lionytai learns from this. :)  The act of creating original work, whether it be written or artistic, copyrights that material to its creator.  As such, using something someone made without their consent is stealing.

As for that sig, I would request you take it out.  I don't mind people using techniques I have come up with, but they should make it unique to them and not just copy the finished product.  No worries, now you know.

Thanks... it took a long time.  I was amazed it actually fits the other logo as well as it does.  There was a lot of time spent figuring out a good way to arrange the letters before it became evident it would look right like that.  After I got all the letters edited I had to go in and redraw them with the pen tool (Tim's favorite =P) so the resized ones would actually look crisp.

One thing I do when I use Savatage is make the T's smaller because they're kinda BIG lol.  You can play around with that in the Character palette, if you have it.

Just play with all the filters until you have a general idea of what they do, then combine them.  That'll usually get you some good stuff.

As a student, you should be able to get PS CS4E for about $200, smaller amount in your currency.  I don't know if that applies to students under college level though (they want you to be serious about it I guess).  You should search for student pricing on adobe products.

It's even "cheaper" if you buy one of the packages, as far as price of what you get.  I got the entire Design Premium suite (Ps, Ai, Fl, Id, Dw, and Fw) for $400 from journeyed.com.

Hey Jas, how do you copy MLN Avatars to Photoshop? I have Photoshop 7.0 and a Mac laptop.

That's easy... I think. :P

Press Command+Shift+4, a target will appear, then highlight the area you want to copy. The pic will be saved to your desktop. Ctrl click, or right click the pic and do "Open with" and choose Photoshop. Then it's there! ;D

If you've got a mac (like me & uraw), that's how you do it.
If not, you need to use another button (I think it's "print screen"), then ctrl-v it into paint, or another program.

My mom's mac doesn't have PS, I just guessed. ;D

That's awesome BioK! And, how did you make it? I'm very curious.

The swirlie thingie?

1. Create a new document. I made a 8 inches x 8 inches with white background. Then, fill the background layer with black color. Create a new layer, then also fill it with the black. I used inches for no reason.
2. Go to the menu Filter -> Render -> Lens Fare. You drag the cross icon to the exact middle. (Close is still enough)
3. In this step, still on the top layer, you use Free Transform (press Ctrl + T), to reduce the height to 28.3%.
4. Next, you duplicate the current layer, then rotate it for 90 degrees, so it is like a plus sign.
5. Then, you choose the blending mode for this layer is Lighten.
6. The purpose of these steps is to create a lighting-flower. So, I continue to duplicate the "Free Transformed" layer, drag it to the top, rotate it about 45 degree, and applied the Lighten mode for Blending Options also.
7. Then, you duplicate the layer 1 again, drag it to the top, rotate it about -45 degree, then applied the Lighten for Blending Option. You will have a freakish cross between an 8-petaled flower and a black hole.
8. Double click on the background layer (the bottom layer), then press Ok to unlock it.
Then, go to the menu Layer -> Merge Visible.
And then, press Ctrl + T to go in Free Transform mode, and increase both height and width to 225%
9. Go to the menu Filter -> Distort -> Wave, and applied the settings below:

Sine
155 Generators
Wavelenghth: 752 - 794
Ampitude: 6 - 34
Scale: 100%, 100%
Wrap Around

10. Duplicate the layer and then go to the menu Filter -> Distort -> Twirl, and applied the settings below.
346 for the angle then press ok. You also applied Screen mode for Blending Options on this new layer.
11. Now, you continue to duplicate the layer and rotate it again, and again to create some abstract graphics In my works, I duplicated it about 4 times, and rotate it in each different ways to have this result.
12. Then press the round button (half black, half white) at the bottom of the Layer panel and select Levels to open the Levels dialogue, then you could use my numbers below. or you could play around with others.

I believe the copyright law says it can, as long as both are not used at the same time.  If you're talking about my copy of PS CS3E, I recently bought the Design Premium CS4 suite so I'm not using CS3E.

If you do difference clouds again, it inverses for you.  I usually keep doing them until I like what I see.

Text is original design, done in Illustrator (two hours) and background done in Photoshop (one hour).  If you're unfamiliar with the Demon Hunter logo, the blackness on the left is a blurred version of it.

To get it on the computer from a design floating around in my head, I use Adobe Illustrator CS4.  It's a vector graphics program, which means it stores data as a series of points and slopes.  Here (http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o217/craZyRacrXtreme/tehlogoofawesomeness.png)'s a screenie of the interface.

Wait.... do you turn it into a font, or just copy and paste each letter to spell out what you want to? 'Cause I have Illustrator.

I don't turn it into a font you'd be able to use in MS Word, for example, because a lot of the fonts I make are highly specialized to the original word(s) I made it for (examples MÆLXTRØM, soulFire).  Even the Hunter font is individual to that graphic because the points come off as I see fit for that, there isn't a norm I've specified as to from what part of a given letter and what direction the points go.  If you wanted to make a standardized font to use in other programs, I think a specific font creation program is required.  The closest you can get to that in Illustrator (and also PS) is saving things as custom shapes.

To make these logos I just draw them out with the pen tool, and copy/paste elements that are the same for multiple letters (such as the pointed and non-pointed stems of letters).

Lol.  If you're using it in PS then you have pretty good reason to hate it.  It's much better in Illustrator, and it's pretty much the only way to do anything.

It's obviously not my traditional fare, I usually do dark graphics so I was pleased that it turned out well (I think at least).  What do you guys think?

 I think I am decent at photoshop, but no where near that good. I no longer have photoshop anyways. My old computer crashed, and my newer computer is not compatible with it. (Doesn't work on Windows 7)

I misspelled "Cleanse" >_< but it should only take a couple minutes to fix because the integration between Illustrator and Photoshop is awesome.
