Title: The legodac bi-monthly poem contest #9 I'll be entering this one
Post by: Legodac on February 21, 2009, 11:56:59 am

Here's the deal, simply write a poem about Lego or anything else you think of, all content must be original.
Of Course all MLNO rules and regs apply.
Contest rules and guidelines are as follows:
::) Only one judge per week, to start off today, I'll be the first judge
::) Other judges may apply here from week to week and will be chosen by me to select three winners.
::) The contest runs from the first to the middle of the month and then the last half
::) Ok, I'm gettin' there, sheesh, The prizes come from me, and don't worry, we'll get them to you wether or not you're on my friend list in MLN via the Banker Courier system.
:o  First prize is 3 CSU's and second is 3 totemic animals and 3rd is a lisence
;D ;D ;D ;D Please enter as often as you like, even if we only have 2 writers here, it will be more fun with more poems

So this is an upgrade, for the forum fades
an example of rhyme
which took little time

I wrote just for fun
this story and pun

This morning I wrote
no thought of a vote

OK EH, give it a rest, we know your the best, OK, I'll stop, lol, LOTSA O LEGO, the following I wrote in 5 minutes playing around with a cookie that never seems to loose any crumbs, I submit this to say I'm worthy to judge

As I rise to me feet and dust myself off,
to view the carnage, disgusted I cough,
I move to my craft the one I named LUSI'
revenge is at hand it's gonna be juicy

I notice she's damaged
and look for a bandage
repair her real quick
Then get on the stick

lighting the fires
I head for the mires
I'm here at Speherus
so it's gonna get serious

low and behold he's taking a nap
with cookie in hand, it's there on his lap
snatching it quick
and just in the nick

I head for the stars, and take a lookie
I'm thinkn' outloud, ALL THIS FOR A COOKIE?

I have a poem! It probablyy isn't that good, but it's a poem.

Legos are extremely fun,
You can play with them in the sun.
Or inside on a rainy day,
They're fun to play with any day
Star Wars, Castle, Agents, too.
So many themes made just for you.

Well, that's my poem.

Plastic LEGO blocks
Being played with by a kid
Creating a car

It's a haiku.

Here, take a peak,
I hope my poem isn't too weak...

The Lost Brick

That brick over there,
it's age looks so severe.
Perhaps you should play
Like you used to every day?
You seem lost, touching it,
perhaps you should sit?
Take your brick,
Even if you're sick.
Go, take it, shall I say,
Here, you do it this way.
Look at it, for a moment,
And turn it into a monument,
Car, truck, house, anything...
You can even sing.
Take it, go ahead,
Don't make the plastic sad...

Cool, I like it

A quote from jas

Plastic LEGO blocks
Being played with by a kid
Creating a car

That's the best poem ever written, it's way ahead of it's time, so far in fact, I can't find the rhyme
perfect in time, it is so sublime
so see if you won in 3009

It's going so well
I may cast a spell
on all those here now
who don't have a cow

following 5th of six with some really cool tricks
Here, take a peak,
I hope my poem isn't too weak...

The Lost Brick

That brick over there,
it's age looks so severe.
Perhaps you should play
Like you used to every day?
You seem lost, touching it,

That's cool too

Thankyou Sir, I must point out to all who read here, I, went ahead with this topic on my own without prior approval and to all who are new, read the MLNO rules before hand. You'll avoid any embarassing situations, like this,

FOR Ab-Z, I am sorry and thanks again

I have modified the rules, please post as often as you like, and it gives you another chance to come out on top. This modification is also at the top (first post)

Ooh, fun. We just started a unit on poetry in english.
Winners have been posted in this same forum,in another topic. However, I'm locking this topic because I think that we'll have a better contest without the rhyme and focus on creative writing and short stories, everyone loves a good story and everyone has one to tell. Even though I'd like to keep this perticular contest open, because that's what I promised, I'm closing it until I'm certain it is accepted by a few more brickers

I'm not doing a haiku this week. Remember, poems don't always have to rhyme...

Have a look, it'll be quick
Take a look at that lone LEGO brick
You used to use it, night and day
But you stopped after we went to that bay
After that, you didn't give a care
You were too distracted and unaware
So, remember that lone LEGO brick
and maybe play with it when you are sick

lego is the best,
 as you can see
nothing's better than that,
at least for me
i build and take photos
of my newly built sets
i like to build houses,
monuments and jets.
Planes are good too
nothing's bad to do
I wish everyone likes LEGO

including you.

Here's my poem. It kind of rhymes... and repeates.

I like LEGOs
That is true,
They're cooler than
Some brand new shoes.

I like LEGOs
Yes it's true,
That's all I have
To say to you.

Well, there it is.

I will give it a shot...

What shall we build with bricks today?
Would you like to come over and play?
There are so many things I’d like to say,
And building with Bricks is the perfect way!

My LEGO Friend you know it’s true,
I’d like to build the world with you.
There’s so many things that we could do,
With LEGO bricks, just me & you!

This one's over, next one begins now, see contest winners for last weeks winners.

WP contest #3 winners as follows
In first place we have Lionytai, an inspiring piece of poetry to say the least
In second place we have MsRR for her down home and original LEGO poem
In third we have my faithfull buddy, Obi-wan, who's down to earth poetry, truly made me smile
In 4th, an honourable mention to Wagner who doesn't know that I don't understand pc lingo yet, yet, there were a couple of glowing rhymes
Your prize is 2 gypsum, nice job.(We'll find a BC for your Prize)
In conclusion, I'd like to something about last weeks winner, Jas765, who wrote a poem so close to my heart it made me cry. To me, he wrote about the 'Lego Dark years',something I didn't even know about until talking to a close friend, a place I once was, a place we all may find, a place you don't want to go, My only wish is that he graces us with his poetry once again.

How didn't I see this last week? :P

Okay, here I go:

Power miners are
underground with rock monsters
Stealing their crystals

umm... I'll go with that. It's another haiku I just thought off the top of my head.

May your neighbors respect you,
Troubles neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And Heaven accept you.
May you have a world of wishes at your command
God and his angels close at hand
Friends and family their love impart,
And Irish blessings in you heart.

Join the new racing game! It's really cool
Most people think it's better than school
you race and buy cars: you equip them with parts
Although it's still beta, it wouldn't break your hearts!

My friend Flipz asked me to write a soliloquy for mines of doom... I'd like to share it here...
The " poem" is contained within...

* Cart has just jumped track, DD101 is ok, Treecleaver is presumed lost*

OH My Goodness!!  …  I had a feeling something like this would happen if those boys weren’t careful. I asked them to hold on tight. What are we going to do now?
I cannot imagine an LU or an MLN without my friend Treecleaver.

I felt a bump, I heard a shout, and then we all were cast about…
And now I fear with all my heart, my friend Treecleaver’s fallen out!
Our world has changed forever more,
But he will remain alive through our lore.
A living legend, he surely was…
And a great friend to each of us.
He was such an honest trader,
And a Lego creation innovator.
He climbed the ranks from 0 to ten,
And favored LU with bricks & pen.
His skill was known by everyone,
His rep as a master bricker was fairly won.
His building star shown bright in LDD
Trading posts, ships and even a tree!
He was a beta tester for MLN,
And he was a legend, even back then.
I can’t believe he’s really gone…
I don’t know how I’ll carry on…
Alas our grand adventure is not what we all wished for.
There’ll be a void in LU forever more.

We must erect a monument to our fallen friend. His greatness and valor must never be forgotten. All my bricks will go to this endeavor.
Who’s with me?

CSUs are great! they are really rare
i would like some if yo uhave some to spare
they were worth 100 clicks! how expensive that was!
it's becuase they're rare, if you want to know the cause
now it's 60 i think, at least for me
nobody will give them to yuo for free
unless it's legodac's contest, which i'm trying to get one now
if you want some free, this is how!

i gave my friend a CSU.  He must be glad!
he gave me nothing. i am so sad.
i begged fro some clicks -that's all i need
he said," well, if you gimme some totemic feed"
i'm angry right now, angry at the lamb
i shouldn't have give him the CSU. what a ham.
the day after that he thought it was rude
he told me, "sorry, i shouldn't have given you a bad mood.
I'll give you some clicks. Ten, that's all."
I'm happy right now! Let's go to the ball!

Happy Easter.. This one is a gift... I want no prize.

Thorny crown
Bloody temple
Spiky whips
Scarred visage
Bruised and wounded
Heart pulsating
Stony bed
somnolence
Cross a-lugging
Weariness
Stabbing nails
gagging pain
Scorching sun
patched throat
taunts and jeers
Loving still
Thief on the cross
Paradise
A lifted voice
Jeremiah
Robe divided
Prophetic
Sin of the world
A loud cry
yielding up the ghost
Ghosts recovered
Rumble and flashes
Pouring rain
Temple shroud
Ripped foundation
Man delivered
It is finished
Glory Reborn

Hi my name is Andrew
I am sometimes rude
My Mom makes food
And my Dad makes stuff with glue.

I hate this world
Everyone acts like a girl

But if you like LEGO's
you should go to MLNO.

It is built out of bricks
Not stones or sticks

If you go on this forum
You don't want to go back home

The people that come here
Make it very clear

If you like LEGO
You should come to MLNO

Members

There are so many members of MLNO
About 300 or so

Each member is different in there own way
Some go to the games forum and play

Others go and  peacefully debate
Some even choose a lego set to rate

All in all everyone gets along
Some even share a song

So if you're on your PC
Join MLNO, it's fun and free.

I'm not very good at writing poems.

Great members of MLNO
There are a lot of great people at MLNO
When you see how cool they are you go WOAH!

They are very nice, so you don't have to be in fear
I'll also list some here,

There's legodac who likes lego train
And Blade who people claim is insane

Liontai has great deals in his store
Empire981 has 100 thornax and he doesn't want more

To all the members I didn't include
I wasn't trying to rude

You're all very cool
After all us MLNOers rule!

Rank 10
The game may be over,
It may be won,
But if you think about it,
There will be even more fun!

They did it so quick,
Legodac, lionytai, and all the rest,
You'll be with them one day,
Except we're all the best!

Another entry there.
TBD

It is such a pleasure,
To discover in your inventory,
The last three bricks of glory!

After a long time you become Rank 10.
So why am I telling you this when
I am only Rank 9?

I'll break it to you now,
I got some clicks and KA-POW,
I'm Rank 10!

TBD
P.S Sorry, just felt like writing that. It's an entry though. And it's true! :)

Earlier this month  I won a CSU
I'm not quite sure what to do
I've heard they are quite great
And help determine your MLN fate
I think they are used in rank nine
Either way they are quite fine
They're also worth a lot
Even more then a prize from a pet robot
I think I'll hold on to my CSU
Because they matter alot to me and you

My Buddy:

It was at random that we met,
A chance not many get.
Your page just didn't show
So how was I to know
That you would turn out to be my  friend,
Someone who could be there without end.
No matter how I feel or what I do,
I know without question I can count on you.

Most impressive, from all three
                        A poem wrote, I'm sure you'll agree
Tough time I'll have, awarding the prize
They are all fantastic, I'll tell you no lies

   I wish I could declare a 3-way tie, sadly I don't have the means this week...so
               1st goes to LVR
               2nd to MsRR
and 3rd to Lionytai...Thanks to all...

Okay,my poem,a limerick-

Legos can be found everywhere,
Well, maybe not, they're not found in your hair,
but they're always quite fun,
and not something you shun,
even though they're just plastic shaped square.

EDIT-when does this week's contest end?

Well, it's not a haiku though .it's syllables not words.

Haikus from Japan
Are five then seven and five
syllables, not words

My lego network

Friends to be met,
A game to explore,
But we still want,yet,
So very much more,
For we say we've finished,
But it is never quite done,
That is the beauty,
Of the endless fun.

Friends

Friends are a gift,
Given from above.
They’re there when you need a lift
Or when you need a bit of love.

Friends come and go.
Yet we always remember them.
All have friends, new and old,
What would the world be without ‘em?

Friends can be anyone,
Of any gender, race, or age.
All they require is someone
To truly love through the ages.

And that is quite an old poem I wrote long ago.

here is a poem.

Steve Mcnair
He was always there
He went to the superbowl with tennesee
And in the hall of fame, he will be
When people had trouble, at he they would look
He had his own restaurant; he was a good cook
He was a great guy and he made people glad
That is why his passing was so sad

Summer
Summer's here, let's go outside
No school, water fights and ice cream
Days out, holidays and beaches,
It's anyone's best dream!

But how time flies,
It's gone in a flash!
Soon the rain and wet comes.
Autumn, it came in a dash!

I made this up on the spot because I felt like it :D

Legos when my father buys me.

Creativity

Something many people admire,
For anyone can posess,
This wonderful thing,
that can often make a mess,
It brought us all legos,
To play with and have fun,
So i think that i can honestly say,
Creating is a lot of fun.

Hope of my Heart

As I walked along the streets
Many sad things my eyes did meet.
I saw the poor, the hungry, the broken
All standing there, their hope was choken.
I handed out the bags, the food
Yet it sometimes seemed that little was understood.
So off me, and my team mate, went
To show these people what our deeds meant.
We spoke, we shared, we told them of Christ
They listened, they heard, were given more in life.
We listened, we cried, we heard their stories
And then we showed them of God's glory.
Now as I remember that dark night,
I hope and pray to be to them a light.

Something experienced on my trip.

I did a feed the homeless trip with my church not to long ago so I'll do a poem about it. (Flash's earlier poem inspired me to do this one so I'll give most of the prizes.)

There we were handing out bags in the cold
To those who felt there lives had been sold
To the ones who felt odd
The ones who had not found god
We gave them water to drink
Items for them think
Though there tent city
Wasn't so pretty
They are humans like you and I
They don't deserve to die
We need to look around town
Look for those who are down
Help them to see the light
The glorious light of Christ

Like a Singing Nightingale,
A Bubbling Brook Sings Forth.

Like a Thunderous Cloud of Storms,
A Waterfall Crashes upon the Stones.

Like a Mighty Pack of Wolves,
A Swift-flowing River Runs Strong.

Like a roaring Dragon with no Master,
An Ocean’s Waves Careen to and fro.

Like two striving giants of strength,
A Pelting Curtain of Rain Batters the Earth.

Like a Master of All Shapes and Forms,
Water is an Element with no Boundaries.

A new entry for ya'll to enjoy :) I wrote this after experiencing the wrath of Niagra Falls.

Very well. I'll try concoct something in the next five minutes... *ponders*

EDIT: Whoops, that was 7 minutes ::)
Oh well, here's a rough poem:

Remember

A sad day to ponder, a great day to remember
It happened years ago, the 11th of November
It was a gruesome war, yet we often forget
Of what happened then, when men’s lives were forfeit
So a thanks to all those, still out in the field
Every day we see - what their sacrifices yield
We pray that their souls - shall rest in peace
Every one of them, whose lives oft cease
The men in the past - and of those to come
For those in the present, with a battle to be won

And you are my Hero Flash, I've said it before, I'm saying again, you future is in writing Mr. Alex Tolken.

You indeed have an insight and one heck of a Remembrance Day poem there

The legodac bi-monthly poem contest #7 Begins Now

BTW, I'm entering this next one, so is Flash, multiple times, please join the poem contest that will prove you ready...

Ok, "ya'll, I'm about to do my impression of the poem chef"

There is a goal we all do seek
if only we had a little peak

I speak of a goal, that says who we are
a dream that we dream, that seams to far

So get on the bus, or get on your bike
Just heed my words, and you'll be on the hike

If what you wish, is your dream come true
Then believe in yourself, it's the only way through

Fine, fine. *think, think, think* *snaps fingers* Here's a Thanksgiving one:

Red leaves drifting in the wind
Cold air nipping at your face
Here comes that time of year again
All gather round the table for Grace

Bright sun shining in the East
Time's are merry, hear the joyful laughs
We're all ready for a grand old feast
So loosen up your belt by half

Another month come by, what shall we see?
A baby in a manger, underneath the star
Season of love and grace and glee
The arrival of the new year not so far

Eh, not my best poem... *shrugs*

I thought it was cool pal, very sweet and heart felt and neet...

My second entry is thus, so get on the bus...

I decided at about 3 am this morning that my second entry to 2 of 9's X-prize contest would be my LU treehouse, the entrance that is, I also decided to expand the poem a little, the original is still on my MLN page, behold...
              The entrance to the Universe

There's an entrance, don't you know?
To a place, we all must go.

Now show us who'll you be,
In the Universe, you will see.

All our friends are there, so don't despair.
This place is for us, so get on the bus!

And when you arrive in a place of wonder...
Endeavour to strive, take time to ponder

     No doubt you'll be wowed,
         In creations so proud,

A little brick here and a little brick there
soon you will have, the power to dare...

So give us a sign, that you will be there
just one more rhyme, and you will have a pair..

The pair will arise
    to build and surprise

Can you guess who they are
    in a Universe, to far.

Behold the entrance, carefull though, Billy-Bob is hungry

On request of the marvelous host, I'll be posting another poem here:

Remember the Day
A time for joy, a season for love
Because of one boy, because of Him above
A night we remember, a day to give thanks
Because of a Savior, because it’s Christmas Day
So take time this season, take a moment to spare
Remember the reason, acknowledge the heir
Relive the glory, relive the day
Ponder His story, think of the Way
Born in a manger, born in humility
He was no stranger, He is family
A plan had been made, a plan for our souls
The way had been paved, this narrow, eternal road

Old Man Winter

A truly cool poem Flash, maybe one of the best you've ever written. Very nice indeed and heart felt aswell.

So I guess this means it's my turn and then we award each other some prizes, not falling for it eh, k, I'm the prize department, well..

You did Christmas as a Saviour born among us to save our souls, I think I'll do one about friends, for they have the ability to save your soul aswell...

As I walk and move through this thing we call Life
As I endeavour to control a thing we call strife

The mistakes I've made
The challenges I've met
Though I'm still afraid
On that you can bet

And when that mistake is made
We may have to count on a friend

When you didn't make the grade
A cry for help that you must send

The mistakes forgiven
By friends so wise
make you feel living
So once more, we're on the rise

So when in doubt, count on a friend
There will always be times when you slip
For they have the power to mend
In those times when you've lost your grip

I've been working for nine tenths out of the last 3 days, how good would your poem be?

For Flash, you Rock pal, you're poems are the best, which means you win TWO FIRST PRIZES, keep entering pal, maybe the rest of these brickers will join in soon.

Poems are fun and a real challenge sometimes, sometimes they may just sound like sunshine, and you'll have yourself something that you can say..."Yeah, I wrote that" and then feel really cool about it.

Write a poem eh...next contest begins now

Thanks Legodac, and a great poem yourself. I guess that comes from good experience.

Here's a haiku...

White snowflakes
They drift and they float
Upon the wind they flitter
Drifting to the ground
From the clouds they come to earth
Until they melt have away

I know I may have asked this before, but could someone please explain what a Haiku is to me please ?

Whatever it is, it looks well written, nice job Flash and thanks for entering again.

I sent you 6 CSU's in MLN for your efforts and congrats aswell, I'm so happy you keep entering, I will aswell.

To all, please enter, write a poem or 2, you may discover it's not so hard to do
and on that note, perhaps I'll say this, you could write a poem, that descibes your bliss

For you see that within us all
There is a power that yearns to grow
And once released, you cannot fall
A power un-named, this much I know

Now you are asking, what this power could be
you wonder too, if it is within you
For it's simple you see, to share is to be free
So now you see the power of creation, all that's left, is for you to do

So share with us what moves you on
Fear is an option, that will always be there
What dare will you take, for some simple fun
so share your creativity, it's your soul you must share

I've done better, but hey, it's just some fun...eh  ;)

BTW, Flash's poem and mine, are both entered in number nine, So share with us a poem devine, this is your chance to show and shine

A haiku is a Japanese form of writing. It's a poem of sorts, but under a different structure. Usually having to do with nature, and a certain structure of syllables in each line.

Thanks, but I'm still a little fussy on the structure of sylables thing. I wonder if there's a place that would explain it in detail?

Kind of like this... the numbers showing how many syllables are needed in each line:'

(1)
3
5
7
(5)
(7)
(7)

The ones in (parentheses) are the ones that are sometimes left out.

Here we go :P

I just logged on
It has been so long
Almost seems wrong
Like pizza in Hong Kong

I want to be best
So I scan the contests
These poems I've studied
With all my school buddies

They never get old
They cannot be sold
They may be forgotten
But they never turn rotten

I then scroll down
And my face is a frown
Though once filled with joy
My mind now bitter as soy

I wonder and think
Don't bother to blink
I wish I could know
Why this thing is so

Everything is in a mix
Oh poor little six
Every number got their spot
But 6 is dot, dot, dot

Cannot it count?
This screen on its mount
It stares at me so
At M-L-N-O

My comp is mocking
Like coal in a stocking
Every number has their spot
But six is dot, dot, dot...

In other words, I get bugged when pages go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...,7 I mean, the 6 is even smaller than a "..." =/ *starts throwing things* anyways, yeah, that's my entry, I guess.

WOW, a truly original poem Micah, thanks for entering.

As you can see, I'm back, though I won't be on every day, I will endevour to get here on MLNO a few times a week.

So let's carry on with the poem contest, who has one that they would like to submit in competition to Micah's, I know he won't mind that I'm late, so we'll run the contest to the end of April, then get back on track after that with the bi-monthly format.

Or how about the end of December 2011?  ;)
What do you MLNOers think?
Shall we have a poem show down to celebrate Christmas, the new year and all our time together?
Seems we have a lot of creative people here and I for one, would like to revive this contest in the new year.

For now though, how do YOU feel about sharing a poem to celebrate whatever it is that makes you happy?  :)

As promised, (and only the Lego God knows how I found this) we need a new poem contest and as you can see from the prior post, I'm right on schedule.

To make a long story short, look at my new signature, I have chosen 4 pics and then added a rhyme to suit each one in consecutive order.

The challenge or NEW FORUM GAME is this...

First person (likely me) chooses 4 pictures and then posts them, next poster then makes up a rhyme to suit the four pictures, when that task is complete, that person now has an option to offer 4 pictures to be rhymed or they may do the opposite, offer a 4 line rhyme that must be answered with four pictures.

Complicated, time consuming, certainly not effortless eh.

This is a prototype post, what do you think
