Half the Metro stuff will likely just be tablet ports of typical desktop stuff. =P And since you can access the old interface, and use it as normal(Metro would only activate to use the interface, other than that, it'd be like normal from what I understand); then you wouldn't need to both with that.
Alternatively; you could simply switch to Unix stuff, as that doesn't have this silly approach to programming. =P

but that's the thing, anything that has a metro version WON"T have a "classic desktop" version. microsoft's made that very clear.
and honestly? i'm betting a lot on android ice cream sandwich / jelly bean. Google dosn't need to do much to make Android a full blown OS that can compete with windows systems.
If the final release of W8 is actually worse than this prerelease version, i see a HUGE amount of people moving to mac. And i can't blame them.

@ truth - a one-click disabler, that's all. i can do that stuff manually no problem. but as i said, it presvents ALL metro apps from working.

wish there was some way to run metro apps as a window in classic view....
