Yeah, the whole "wizard competition" thing is kinda rediculous...
I'm going to disagree there. It ups the stakes and provides an actual
reason for the out-of-control sibling rivalry, aside from the "TV families are supposed to be like that" formula. The little we actually saw of the competition in earlier seasons was actually pretty decent; it's only towards the end that things got rediculous.
The thing that irks me about these shows is that none of them try to
grow with the audience. Seriously, stop trying to be
Sesame Street; you don't
have to constantly maintain the same status quo and have your characters remain childish and immature through the entire series. Kids grow up--their entertainment should grow with them. That's part of what killed BIONICLE, and it's killed HUNDREDS of kids franchises over the years.
ATTENTION ALL TV PRODUCERS: Sesame Street is a rarity--it still manages to work (somewhat) despite having been on television since before cavemen invented the wheel and fire (

).
YOU ARE NOT SESAME STREET. You will not be on the air for decades upon decades. You CAN afford to have real character development and growth. You do NOT have to stretch out your show for additional merchandising money until it becomes a tired, shallow husk that's not worth letting kids watch anymore.Whatever happened to artistic integrity?
