They are trying to BAN the sale of certain guns in some cases.. all guns in others.. there are over 33 bills submitted to congress, and some states have their own.

My opinion is that making guns illegal will work as well as making meth illegal... more business for the cartels, more crime .
But beyond that, the criminals will also know that while they still have guns, ordinary citizens do not...
Not pretty, IMHO

While I agree that banning certain types of guns won't stop dedicated criminals from getting their hands on them, it'll also make it harder for lunatics like that guy in New England to get their hands on them.  TBH, I can't think of a single legitimate reason for an ordinary citizen to own an automatic firearm, and depending on the specific model, even certain semi-automatics are a bit iffy--I can understand the need to be able to fire more than once at an assailant without having to reload, but at the same time too many available shots put it back into the territory of being more of an offensive weapon vs. a self-defensive weapon.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe Americans SHOULD have a right to self-defense, but some of the weapons available to private citizens are downright absurd.

That said, I'm not sure the government is competent enough to handle the problem; legislation rarely fixes anything these days.  Hasn't for decades.
