Lego bricks spill on to West Virginia highway causing major delays

A highway in West Virginia was shut down due to a massive spill – of Lego.

The plastic bricks were strewn across Interstate 79 near Clarksburg over the wet and windy weekend, causing major delays.

Apparently a crate filled with the toy bricks was strapped to the top of a family’s car but it flew off, leaving behind the Lego trail.

A local report from WDTV stated: ‘Around 5:15pm Sunday, there was a roadway obstruction of Lego blocks on I-79 around mile marker 117 in Harrison County.

‘Traffic was down to one lane until crews could clean up the mess.’

Mother Tiffany Lantz, who lives nearby, took responsibility for the spill, explaining the Lego belonged to her 11-year-old son.

‘Those Legos were in totes strapped to the top (of the vehicle),’ she wrote on the Facebook page for the local transportation authority.

‘They fell off when the strap came loose and he cried… it seemed like forever. But I tried to recover as many as I could because I don’t have the money to buy him any more.’

She apologised to the drivers who were delayed because of the mishap.
