I think that's people trying to use the Platinum glitch/feature that let you put up a Pokemon on the GTS with the appropriate evolution item, then take it back after 24 hours and it would evolve.  If they put up a deal for a pokemon that COULD be obtained, then there is a shot of someone doing the trade and you losing the Pokemon, whereas if you ask for an impossible trade... Wink
