Hey, you could always do shot or disc or javelin in Track, you don't necessarily have to be the person who runs.

k stands for kilometer, which is equivalent to 0.62 mile. A 10k race = 6.2 miles, and a 5k race = 3.1 miles

Actually, Lionytai is right. Technically, the abbreviation for 5 Kilometers in 5km, it's just that it sounds really lame if you actually say 5 km, so I've never said it like that before,; I guess old habits die hard. =P And 18:07 is somewhere around a 5:50 mile pace.  |

Yes. The only thing that could be mistaken is the fact that 5k could refer to 5000 of something. But when you say 5k or something in reference to running, it doesn't usually mean that. =P
