Just looking at that final picture there... that's a lot of LEGO! Shocked I love the layout, legodac.

I'm back. Probably not for long, as I've got school stuff to attend to, and I'll probably want to get a job at some point (hopefully self-employed). But nice to see you all again anyway.

Thanks pal, I had to send TOMBOMDOODLE a message to ask him to post here so I could share more of my LEGO experience with you all, so I wouldn't "double post".

Enough said, let's move on to bigger and better things. Like how do I begin with a train layout on a shelf that WOWS every little tyke that enters the room and simply says COOL!!.

Remember, if it moves, you're halfway there, and if it's also made out of LEGO, you'll have a new little friend, or maybe a big one.

Remember this too LEGO buddies, I'm 47 and a grandfather of 2 little boys, when I hold them in my arms viewing the active layout, nothing compares to the feeling when you look in there eyes and see that they're seeing something WONDERFULL.

OK, let me dry my eyes, I'm good now, SHELVES, hang on, it's coming soon (where have you heard that before)

The first thing you need to do is figure out how many rooms, trains can go a long way, talk to Mom and Dad or your wife or husband and establish the perimiters

What if there are windows and walls in the way? My room has tons of space but only half of it is useable. And there is no way to get the layout out of the room.

But Lego tracks cannot bend as I did with my worktable. My worktable lifts up like a bridge. Is that possible?

I'd want my trains to be able to pass all around my room, but there are windows which would prevent that...
By the way, did you glue your tracks to the shelf cause I'd prefer my tracks to be removable so I can borrow them to the members of the a LEGO club for expos?

My train passes in front of 8 different windows in 2 seperate rooms, I would need to know more about the design of your windows before I can offer advice. 2nd, no, they're not glued, they're screwed, with a #4 guage by 1/4 inch brass wood screw with a tapered head that fit nicely into the mounting hole that LEGO provides when they do their injection molding process... The windows are some three feet wide and go from the floor to the ceilling, one of them has to open up to allow people to get trough to the balcony and the other only has open up a little.

So ask your guardians, if it's ok to shelf in front of the window that only opens up a little, still being able to operate the window. We can design a draw bridge shelf that would only take 2 or 3 minutes to raise or lower for the section of window that is your access to the balcony. Since you havn't bought your train tracks yet this will be easy to accomplish with the new flex track that doesn't have 12 volt connections
