In honor of Space Month..  LEGO Space set reviews.. Starting with the Greatest!!

THE GALAXY EXPLORER

This set was released by Lego back in 1979 which makes it 30 years old!  This one was the dream of any LEGO loving child, one of the largest sets and the biggest space ship of the "classic" era, with 338 pieces, 4 minifigs, 2 base plates, and 7 of those awesome large gray cones (engines).
The biggest and best of the early space sets it was elegant, beautiful, and a blast to build and play with. I had a blast flying it around and deploying the car to explore new places. You could pretend the wing-mounted engines were missiles that could be launched for destruction of a multitude of fixed and mobile targets. Side-firing and nose-mounted laser cannons mean this baby is well-armed for any fight.. It has a great playability, its not overloaded with useless details but still with the perfect amount of them, so it is really something special. The huge number of grey pieces made it a true challenge to build. I really liked the cockpit design and opening cargo doors which releases the little vehicle. The ship was so large it could fit two Lego space cars inside. The 4 minifigs were the start of COOL minifigs, and also had some walkie- talkies!
Containing the most coveted classic elements, this set has excellent playability and is the pride of my collection! It truly is a classic set that can stand up to any new Lego set today. The pride of the fleet, in my opinion, it’s most impressive of all space sets.

...due to some...technical difficulties...this is the review topic for Lego Space now. Double posting is allowed, as long as it's two reviews.~Fawful

Cool! I wish I could have been around when those LEGO sets were around. The earliest theme I remember was Insectoids, they were awesome! I loved the flashing lights and noises on them. I think I have a few Space Police 2 sets actually.

I'm back. Probably not for long, as I've got school stuff to attend to, and I'll probably want to get a job at some point (hopefully self-employed). But nice to see you all again anyway.

Well, keep the ones you have now, TBD. When you are a grandpa they will be from " the old days"!
