Space Wars: Regression

IC (Raks):
"We got... ambushed."

IC: Clive

Clive beams over to the ship.  "Hey there.  The name's Clive.  Clive Parsons.  Mercenary.  I'm guessing you were attacked just like we were?"


The Undine continue to attack the Borg galaxy, overwhelming the outer defenses and vaporizing some of the planetary systems.


The yellow blobs begin to drift closer to the Enterprise.  Meanwhile, in another galaxy, one appears at the edge of the sensor range of the ship Rakoua is on.

[Rakoua]

IC (Raks):

"We attacked the Borg, but didn't manage to kill more then two cubes before getting overwhelmed."


IC (Rakoua):

However, this caused many casualties to 8472. Meanwhile, 200 Borg ships equiped with newly adapted nanoprobes attacked the 8472 fleet.

While all this was happening, I took my cube into Fluidic space...

"Time to begin..."

The small sphere we uncovered earlier was loaded into a torpedo and fired.

OOC: *facepalm*  the rift is in a different galaxy, Rak.  The one with the Enterprise.  You'd run into them before you get to the rift.

IC: Undine

The Undine cared about casualties about as much as the Borg did.  They had atomized about 10% of the galaxy, which was causing severe gravitic disruptions to the rest.

The Undine Fleet wipes out 20 cubes without breaking a sweat before the battle really began.  They have clearly been working on ways to resist the Borg and were just waiting for the Borg to overextend themselves.

Meanwhile, one Undine ship emerges from the rift and notices the yellow blobs.  It moves over to investigate.  Another Undine ship approaches the ships near the Enterprise and prepares to open fire on the Enterprise.


OOC: You may or may not want an interaction with the yellow blobs, Rak.  I'd suggest you at least check it out.

OOC: The Northwestern Passage proves it's pretty easy to create a rift...

IC (Rakoua):

The torpedo exploded, and we got out of there. We left a probe there tho, to watch the spectacle. Due to the nature of Fluidic space, a singularity formed, and it just kept growing and growing, untill it quickly consumed the whole of Fluidic Space, which then imploded.

I then sent a hail to the Species 8472 Flagship.

"Your home has been destroyed. Prepare to be assimilated."

The Main Tactical Cube transwarped to the Borg Galaxy and crushed several 8472 ships with just the gravimetric distortion it caused transwarping.

OOC: MTC is 100 times larger then a normal Cube.

IC (Raks):

I noticed something strange in the space around us.

OOC: Gonna have to say NO.  Normally, I wouldn't care, but I can't have only ONE person with ultimate control over armies of baddies, except the DM, which, in this case, is Skrief.  If you wanna give Skrief control over the Borg, I could live with that, but as it currently stands, this isn't a fair RP.  Otherwise, I could have a single Undine ship fly in and blow up both assimilated galaxies in one shot.  I don't think you'd like that, so don't do the same thing to me.  Translation: EVEN FIGHTS ONLY BETWEEN NPCs.  'Kay? 

IC Undine:
However, the Undine had used their mental powers to make the Collective THINK they had been in Fluidic space, when really it had been their other assimilated galaxy (the one that the Undine were already attacking ,the "relatively unadvanced" one.  The Borg suffered heavy damages, and over 60% of the galaxy was now destroyed.

OOC: See?  And that's taking it easy.

IC: Undine

Meanwhile, the other Undine ship opened fire on the enterprise, causing another explosion within.

OOC: Hey, you're the one controlling a race that is destroying an entire galaxy with a highly advanced species that has weapons designed to counter your ships
Besides, you can't make then think something that isn't true, since 8472 doesn't have telepathic powers to that extent. Thing is, Borg were always a part of Space Wars, and are not the only bad guys. Plus I have epic plans with them. So I'm afraid I'm gonna say NO.

Oh, and the Borg aren't NPCs, they're my race =P

IC (Rakoua):

Despite the damage sustained by the Collective, the 8472 ships were being pushed back, bioweapons and the destruction of their home making an effect on their combat ability.

IC (Raks):

"We need to stop them! I know these guys." I said and teleported to the outside of the ship, shapeshifting into something resembeling the Undine ship.

Havok frowned, as he held his sword in his hand, which caught Ray's attention and made Ray's eyes widen in surprise.
"Is that?" Ray asked, and Havok merely nodded.
"The Master Sword, yes, it's gonna be needed for this fight." Havok stated, and Ray frowned, as he looked out the window at what was going on.

IC (Raks):

I shapeshifted a huge tentacle and crashed into the ship, using the tentacle to envelop the ship and block the weapons, while slowly crushing it.

OOC: Then why the [bleep] aren't you allowing for weaknesses and failures?!  An RP only works if players are willing to take the good with the bad.  If you had legitamitely maneuvered, let's say, Clive into a situation he coudln't get out of, I'd let you kill him, no matter what epic stuff i have planned.  You're just going, "Oh, you have a big gun?  Well, my gun just got bigger for no apparent reason," and it goes back and forth to gain the upper hand.  I have no interest in an RPG that's JUST fighting, with no character development whatsoever.  (Also note that' the percentages I'm giving are relatively small [especially compared to the Borg's seemingly infinite resources] and go up at a steady, constant rate, giving you several posts in which to come up with a plan and react--something which I have not seen in your Borg actions--correct me if I'm wrong.  And, in regards to your "weapons designed to counter your ships" comment, the Undine have also had time to adapt to the Borg's tactics; it goes both ways, you know.)

Now I don't particularly care about the Undine.  They can go away if need be.  They are there to BALANCE you out.  I just can't accept an RP where you are the all-powerful leader of the Borg and we can't do anything to you and we spend all our time fighting and dying instead of developing our characters' story.  So don't misunderstand me: I'm not pulling out the Undine to instantly give the anti-Borg faction another ally (that's why they're attacking the Enterprise).  They're there purely because you've gotten too powerful on a meta level and you need to lay off.  I'm specifically doing this Undine stuff EXACTLY the way you are, so you can see what you're doing to the game.  As an added side effect, it is a way to give the other players TIME to do character development and stuff without you suddenly saying, "The Borg show up and kill you all," which is where you seem to be headed.

So, here's my deal: you tone down the Borg, and I'll let the Undine scatter.  Deal?

IC: Undine

The Undine ship electrifies its body, causing the tentacle to flinch.  It slips a bit looser, and begins firing at the tentacle.

"Who are you, anyway? You don't... Seem like others." Ray asked, as something was puzzling him about the stranger with the Master Sword. Havok looked at Ray for a second, and then turned away.
"I am known as 'Havok'. No more; no less. And I don't seem like the others... Because I'm not like the others. You'd likely find that Raks doesn't seem like the others either." Havok stated cryptically, as Ray frowned, and shrugged.

OOC: Flipz: Just one thing; there will be times where it isn't 'Borg have come to kill everyone'... I can guarantee you that. I'm not making Havok progressively more powerful(He has the Master Sword I state again. =P) for nothing. =P

OOC:

It's waaaaay to early to be talking about any sort of balance in this RPG. You'll have the Rexians with their undoubtably very powerfull capital ships, Starfleet with the Enterprise, and the Borg with their endless resources. You're the one that just came in to say "Oh, my guys are eating your guys." without any reason (Borg were waaaay more advanced during the attack).

Regarding the power of Species 8472, they might be the biological evolution, but had they adapted to the nanoprobes, their immune systems would have consumed them since the nanoprobes have the exact same signature as their blood cells.

Another thing you don't seem to realize that Space wars is more about the overall epicness. To do that, empires need to be formed and destroyed. THis is what's happening. But it shouldn't happen within a few days!

I'm not going to tone down the Borg if you don't come up with a legitemate reason why that is needed.

IC (Raks):

The tentacle dissolved, but I managed to break trough the bioship's outer shell and get to the pilot, slicing off his head by shapeshifting a chainsaw.

OOC: I don't follow.  Is this a new RPG, or was this somehow in progress before it started?  Y'all are talking as if there are rules to this world, but I honestly can't tell if they are already there (in which case they need to be available for new players to read), or if you all are making them up on the spot.

The only past I know about is Clive's past, which your whole Borg thing screwed up by assimilating the galaxy.  I WAS going to do a ton of char. dev with old enemies, past locations, and stuff, and it's been nuked.  the whole "my guys are eating your guys" thing came as a stall tactic to let me salvage my storyline.  It didn't work, and I can't revise my backstory fast enough to accommodate.  I have like three different "quests" Clive should be dealing with, and I'm still waiting to get out of "crisis mode" so he has a reason to go explore them.

Bottom line: If there's an ongoing storyline with specific history that will affect the current story, I need to know, and it needs to be posted publicly for all players to see.  It's not fair for some players to know everything that went on in the past and some not to, especially if some characters of the players of the first group have access to insane superweapons in addition to their players' past knowledge.  If this is the middle of a saga, then I need to get rid of Clive and come up with a character better suited for this style of play, because I have a legitimate story for him that will never get to be told in this sort of setting.  Or, to put it bluntly: "Explain the rules, blast it!"

IC: The yellow blobs attach to the other Undine ship near the Enterprise.  It screams in pain, and across the universe the Undine suddenly retreat for deep space before anything else can follow.  Meanwhile, the two Undine ships in the system destroy themselves by slightly altering their established genetic code.

Meanwhile, Clive looks out a viewport at the yellow blobs.  He tries to scan one, but suddenly he passes out.  He lies on the floor, in a coma.

It was all before the Regression tho. All you need to know is about Rakoua, Raks, Marik and a few others.
Anyways, I don't really understand the quest mentality. If you want to do the quests, just do them in a galaxy far far away then, unaffected by the war. It's far more fun to make a person to join a faction or create on and fight in an epic interstellar war.

OOC: There's no true rules... And technically there is a history to this; but it was mostly also a reboot. The main problem is... That is split across the internet. The first three Space Wars games(Though they were short), were here. That's not the problem. After that; everything got moved to it's own site... And there was a split in history caused, with some being here, and some on the other site. Though players have been technically bringing in older characters, or characters who have knowledge of prior events... Whether it be to try and revive an old faction(Like Rexus); simply to hint at things and help provide a balance to the Borg... or simply being the Borg. =P

However, what Rakoua's trying to say is... This is the Borg. They've apparently survived the regression, and have more advanced tech compared to the rest of the place due to that.

Though, I kinda will admit... They were brought in a little early to assimilate the place, since not everyone was able to build up character development and history for their characters before everything started to happen.(I still haven't revealed half of Ray's powers. xP)

As for me; I haven't been putting much of my knowledge of the three prior Space Wars that were here to use with Ray; I've been acting as any new character would. =P

tl;dr: There's no true rules; but there is a history scattered across the internet... But this was supposed to initially be a reboot. The Borg just got slightly in the way of character history.

OOC: If I wanted that, I'd just buy more LU time (ignoring the other reasons why I can't right now), or play some other videogame.  I play RPGs like S.H.I.R.A. Squad as a way to explore the different stories and personalities of my characters.  The real reason I'm upset, tho, is that I feel like I've been lied to; you did NOT make it clear from the first post that this was based on something else.  I got a false impression of what this was about.  I apoligize for messing up your game, and I'll let you play it in peace.  Bottom line: a "fighting" RPG just isn't my cup of tea.  But if you like it, more power to you!  Enjoy.

*Sighs* Can we pause for a minute?

Let me make something clear. This was supposed to be a reboot. This was based off prior games, and some things were brought over.

However; things kinda deviated around page 10, when the Borg reappeared. Given that they had so much advanced tech, I created Havok, to act as a sort of tie between past and present... But Ray was still supposed to be my main character. Then things happened, and Ray got tied up, Raks appeared(As another tie in to the past); and everything happened.

However! This does not mean that history should take precedence; nor that new players should be pushed out of the RPG. Flipz, you've brought new things to the table, and I admit, even things I hadn't thought of for the Cyber Humans and such. You even seem to understand the way to play, with how you've been playing so far.

This is a place to explore personalities, and backstories. Sure, things happen sometimes, like the Borg invasion; but we learn to adapt. Though, I admit, your case is a little different, as every single one of your plans got messed up by said invasion. >_>;

/EDIT: I see you added some more. Was typing, didn't see. =P

This isn't simply a fighting RPG. I mean, if you've been reading my posts, you'll see they have the same kind of depth that was in say, Shira or so.

Sure, we've had more fights than character interactions, but honestly, we've been spread out half the time; and the rest has been simply waiting. Give it a chance... This might surprise you.

That, and given that you've lasted this long with the idea that was originally intended... I'd say you'd fit just fine in here.

You do not need to know the past to get into this RPG. All you need to know is that: a. there were people who survived and b. things do tend to get very complex quite quickly. The unpredictable nature of RPGs also means that if you have plans, you need to adapt them. Also, the characters from the past? I think to both new and old players, it makes them an enigma as some of them haven't been around.

Besides, I think the last Space Wars was about a year ago and even I don't remember most of the details. Except for the characters, which is why I set this millions of years after.

Finally, not everything can be equal in power or it gets boring quick. Varying levels of powers makes it more fun IMO. Pretty soon we're going to have a very powerful faction, (not the one Raks and Havok are forming...) and believe me, it will contest the power of the Borg.
