@Blade:  Yes, it was.  Serebii and Bulbapedia weren't covering it at the time that I saw it, but after some sleuthing around on SerebiiForums, I found someone who posted a poster of information they found.  It had a bunch of information about the event, and it's WAY to formal to be fake.  It's one of those traditional event Pokemon posters that you always find at a Toys R Us/GameStop. ;)

Yeah.  I could get those guys if I ever wanted to, but that takes the fun out of things.  Not to mention that SerebiiForums won't allow widespread trading of Arceus for another year and a half. -_-  I usually choose not to pursue event Pokemon, not because I can't get a hold of them (I have TONS of cloned Milotic, shiny Pikachu, and Master Balls galore; not to mention access to many Manaphys and Darkrais), it's just that I like the thrill of getting a Pokemon through an event for the first time, and it isn't as much fun to get a Pokemon again if I already have it.  Thus, when I play Platinum, I'm going to try and keep its interaction with my Diamond Version as inexistant as possible, so as to create a fun challenge again. :)

I have beat the Tower Tycoon. This was a close battle, but I won in the end. If it weren't for me sending out Hippowdon to activate Sand Stream, I would've lost. So I earned 20 Battle Points and spent them on a Power Bracer for my Dratini.

A suggested moveset would be helpful =).

I have Pokemon Diamond, and currently, I am trying to complete the Sinnoh Pokedex by actually catching the Pokemon. So far, 113 caught. Eventually, I will complete the National Pokedex, IF I can access Wi-Fi. When I complete my Pokedex, then I will assemble my Wi-Fi Team.

Well,roserade is weak to psychic,so you may want to teach a bug move for countering,if it will learn any.Also,I believe milotic can learn Earthquake,and would outspeed most electric types,giving you only one weakness.

BTW,impressive team.one time I went fishing in the cave and the first thing i got was feebas,but after knowing about it for 5+ years.You are one heck of a trainer with that team.

I took the low road  and used my AR to get a Shaymin,to trade to platinum with my friend's DS.

Yeah, but...I wouldn't even call it the internet.  Trust me.  From what I've read, the Nintendo DSi's internet capabilities compare to those of the Nintendo Wii. 

And the Wii's abilities are TERRIBLE. 

There are many times when I've been tempted to throw my Wii.  Again, good luck, but I honestly don't think you'll have a lot of enjoyment with it.  Some, perhaps, but not a whole lot, or at least as much as you could as if you were on a computer. ;)

I finally got to the end of the post-story of PMD: EoT, and while it lasted longer than I expected, it would've been nice if they had've tied in some of the other legends like in Red/Blue. Ah well, it was a somewhat nice post story ending, even if it's ending was kinda abrupt. Ah well, now I just have to wait for EotS to replay it =P

Me too. I new gamed in Emerald when i had 450+hours logged,and over 200 pokemon. I slapped myself for days when i learned about pal park. I had a lv. 100 Rayquaza!

Just replace "Poffins" with Pokeblocks. The higher the level, and the lower he sheen, the better it is. I personally think that Pokeblocks are harder that Poffins. All in all, it's pretty much the same thing.

@ddude:  Yes, but you said that "heart beat skill", and that you could beat me with that alone.  Thus, I made a retort against that. 

And a real competitive player doesn't need a guidebook.  I do everything from my head, as all others do.  You just need to memorize a bunch of things that you can actually find in-game.  Guidebooks aren't necessary. ;) 

So you're saying that you factor EVs, IVs, Natures, Base Stats, CHs, factored moves, counter-strategies and reverse tricks, and the overall tier that you're fighting in?  Then I await a battle with you.  I've been needing a good one for quite awhile. :) 

@herochild:  The point I've been trying to make throughout this topic is the same one that can apply here.  Level doesn't determine how strong a Pokemon is.  Base Stats, Effort Values, Interest Values, Abilities, and Natures determine how strong a Pokemon is.  For example, Giratina's stats are strong enough to put him in the Uber Tier.  On the other hand, Regigigas has much weaker stats, and has a HORRID ability, so he barely even makes Borderline Tier, much less OU or Uber.  Regigigas isn't that great of a Pokemon, in general opinion. 

Of course, the only real way that competitive people battle is in OU. ::) 

I love meh Gallade and Electivire, by the way.  Those two are really good in OU, and I put a fairly good amount of work into factoring out their stats. :)

Beating the Tower Tycoon, at least the first time, is easy.  The problem is getting around the haxing that happens at the Battle Tower.  It's so obnoxious how easily the opponent can override everything you do with no chance for you to win. >__<  Although, I've talked with some guys with Platinum on SerebiiForums, and the Battle Frontier looks to have a bit less haxing than the Battle Tower in Diamond and Pearl.

@BT:  Excellent.  That looks just about how I would raise a Dragonite. :)  Although, it never hurts to put Earthquake on a Pokemon. ;D  Earthquake is, in my opinion, essential to have at least once in every team.  If you put it somewhere else, that's always good, too.  And of course, Salamance is always a bit more adept to Attack and Speed than Dragonite, so I suppose putting Earthquake on him would also have justification. :)

@Blade:  Oh yeah.  Actually, I was just thinking about that.  When I was sending you that PM about our battle, I thought "I should send him that extra Darkrai, but where is it?"  I guess I remember now. ;D  

Not yet, but I suppose that's because I haven't had the time to work on it lately. :)  I have a Regigigas that I got from someone at SerebiiForums back in June '08 that was from the Japan Movie 11 Event.  If you preordered your movie ticket at the time, you got to download the special Regigigas onto your game.  It officially came out before Shaymin, which is why I originally assumed that Regigigas would come out at the same time, if not sooner, than Shaymin in the US. ;)  

@herochild:  The whole Mew rumor started way back when even I was young and inexperienced, when the series was just getting started.  Of course, there were A LOT of glitches back then (Missingno, Glitch City, etc.), so people naturally bought into it. :)  

@BT:  Oh, I've got tons of cloned EQs on my Diamond Version.  You and I could trade, and I could get some to you, free of charge. :)  In all honesty, they're all going to waste anyway, so I don't have a use for them.  Of course, just about everything in the game is available for me to give away, excluding a select group of things. :)  

Um, don't make a defensive Salamance.  Dragonite is understandable, or at least more understandable than Salamance, but a defensive Salamance won't work out.  It contradicts his strengths and purpose.  Trust me, you're better off staying offensive. ;)  

Cloning on Emerald?  Risky?  Nonsense, BT. :)  Cloning on Emerald, in my opinion, is the safest and most stable form of cloning in the entire series.  If you follow all of the steps correctly, there should never be any risk or problem, period.  Trust me, I've done it hundreds of times in my day. :)

@Blade:  He refers to the hotel in the southeast corner of Celadon City.  You know, the one that won't allow Pokemon? 

@ddude:  Okay, here's my advice for a good team. 

First off, I would honestly stick with Torterra.  I suppose Roserade has its perks, but I honestly think Torterra is a better trade off, if you can work around its low Speed and 4x weakness to Ice. 

For the Fire-type, stick to either Infernape or Magmortar, although I would personally suggest Infernape.  Do NOT pick Rapidash, period.  The other two are far superior. 

However, between the two I suggested, Infernape would be better.  His Attack and Speed are incredible, and he has quite a variety in his movepool.  His defenses are admittedly crippled, but if you make him into the perfect physical sweeper, you should be just fine. ;) 

As for a Water-type, stick with Empoleon, Floatzel, or Gastrodon.  All three are good, and have their ups and downs.  Floatzel is great for physical sweeping, but his movepool is a bit lackluster, and a few well-aimed hits can take him down easily.  Empoleon has fairly decent typing, and can have a pretty good movepool, but he can still be easily tripped up by a quick physical sweeper.  Gastrodon is a pretty good choice, as well, and offers somewhere in between the two.  He has a pretty average movepool, and can be pretty quick if executed correctly, but one or two well aimed Grass-type attacks will send it down in flames, and with the rising need for Grass-type attacks for Pokemon with Gastrodon's typing of the Water/Ground split, you'll always want to be wary of that.  Other than that, there aren't any really respectable Water-types, so you should stick with one of those three. 

Togekiss can be pretty good in battle, but you have to use him just right.  The ParaFlinch strategy always works well with him. 

You mean Giratina for a team?  I suppose that's up to you, but I don't really see the fun in going through the game using an Uber to win battles. :-\ 

I suppose that's a general overview for a good team, not just for you, but for everyone.  If there's any further advice needed, I'm always here to provide it.

@BT:  Oh, I knew all of that, but there's also factoring of what pathetic Attack and Defense Blissey has, and what that factors out to.  It just doesn't make logical sense, but that's what happens when you get haxed. >__< (by the way, I make the face to the right whenever haxing is discussed, in case anyone didn't know) 

Well, Blissey's Defense is crud, but it has PHENOMENAL Special Defense.  It's arguably the best Special Wall out there. 

I agree that Knock Off helps, but it spends a turn that could be useful in taking a direct swing at the opponent.  Most people, including myself, usually tend to avoid using Knock Off. 

Well, again, it depends on what Tier you're talking about. :)  I don't traditionally play in Uber Tier, but it still hurts to get a Pokemon with a crummy Nature and an unpredictable set of IVs.

Um, Blade?  Platinum is one of the best.  It's the best modern game, among modern standards (3rd and 4th generation).  However, I still have to say that G/S/C are better, at least from what I see.  Nothing can really compare to them, although I will admit that D/P/P gave them a really good run for their money, in my opinion. :) 

It seems in my rush and lack of time, I've made one grave miscalculation.  Everything that I've planned out is going according to plan with my team, but there's one hitch.  The Torterra, Infernape, Floatzel, Gliscor, and Staraptor are all going as planned, but I failed to plan out how, exactly, I would obtain a functioning Electivire.  I now realize that, in order to obtain even an Elekid Egg or an Electabuzz, I must wait until Route 222, which is right before the 8th Badge.  I've become saddened by this, and I've managed to transfer over an Elekid Egg, but it has all of the best moves for it (Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Cross Chop, Earthquake).  It hasn't hatched yet, but I know it has them.  Thus, I've been debating over whether or not to use it, because that would compromise plans and make the game way too easy.  On the other hand, I have a Shinx ready to go, but I wanted to avoid using him this time around.  At this point, I suppose I'm going to go ahead with the Shinx.  That will make sure that I don't cheat myself of the enjoyment.  I'll properly hatch and raise an Electivire later, when the proper time arises.  Oh well, at least things are looking pretty good, although I haven't made much progress on it yet, due to complications in life, as well as the LRC. 

I was hoping to be done with getting to Rank 10 in MLN before today, but I evidently see that didn't happen.  Oh well, I suppose I'll be taking the long road, then. 

It's looking pretty fun so far. :)  Of course, after hanging around at Serebii and SerebiiForums so much, you tend to learn a lot about stuff, so I all ready knew ahead of time about everything that's come my way.  Anyway.  We'll have to start swapping Friend Codes here soon, but I'd like to make a bit more progress on Platinum before doing that. :)

Well, they would need to do it properly, and do the games some justice.  If they would turn out to be crummy games, then I would rather it be left alone.

herochild:  No, that's the opposite of what most of the community wants.  There needs to be more focus on Johto, not less.  The one major flaw that existed in G/S/C was that there was much more focus put on Kanto then there was Johto.  I wouldn't be bothered if Kanto appeared, but I want Game Freak to not only do justice for G/S/C, but Johto in particular. 

DB:  I think you should be okay, but I don't have all Natures memorized, so I wouldn't exactly quote that. 

I've been meaning to get around to making the GSDS debate for months.  I'll try to work on it here.  There's a specific way that it needs to be presented, so I'll try to make it work.

But all of it would be conflicting.  Recall that not only does G/S/C take place three years after R/B/Y, but this is the video games, not the anime.  In the games, those characters would retain those names.  The anime revolves around the games, not the other way around.  Also, I don't see what the point would be to going to the top of the Burned Tower, or adding onto Mt. Silver.  Mt. Silver's sole purpose was to present a slightly challenging method of battling what has been the strongest in-game trainer in history (until Platinum).  There wouldn't really be any reason to add on, and I don't see what the point would be to exploring the roof of a burned building that wouldn't serve any purpose otherwise.  Finally, the legendary references is the least likely of all.  Arceus' domain resides above Sinnoh, where he apparently "began everything".  There wouldn't really be any logic as to why he would be in Kanto/Johto of all places.  And because Mewtwo and the three birds were confronted by Red in R/B/Y, they can't exist in a GSDS. 

I understand that you're trying to be creative with this, and I applaud that.  It's just that there are too many continuity errors for almost any of that to happen. 

Meanwhile, did anyone else hear about this? o__0  Some people seriously need to get a life.

Also, in the article, one of the comments gave a link to a Youtube video about it.  I must warn you though, there is HEAVY evidence of racism in this Gengar.  Its name is a racial slur, and its moves revolve around ridiculing that race, so I only suggest watching that video if you're mature enough to deal with something like that.

@DB:  I wouldn't go with Geodude, personally, but then again, I'm not a huge fan of Rock-type Pokemon, so I can't really fairly say one way or another. :)  Its stats could just be seen as inferior.

Ah.  An HM slave, I presume?  I find Bidoof to be a good one. :) 

Oh, you have good reason.  Luxray isn't that great in the long run compared to other choices.  I would honestly suggest using Electivire, Raichu, or Magnezone as your Electirc-type in the end.

@DB:  By all means, Volt Tackle is a great move to have on a Raichu.  Just make sure to keep its HP in check at all times.  Volt Tackle can do a doozy on Raichu, even after just one or two uses.

Oh, no.  If you have to choose between the two, definitely go with Gallade.  I was just saying that it's fun to use for awhile, but it has a REALLY shattered Defense, and he can get really old somewhat quickly.

@RP:  Aw, where's the fun in that? :-\  Also, your team has a gaping weakness.  If I were to simply pull out a Physical Sweeper on your team, like, say, my Electivire, who happens to have an Ice-type move as well as a Ground-type move, he could floor your team.  

And at any rate, as ddude said, the vast majority of that would have to wait until later.  

Your team looks pretty fair, ddude.  I personally wouldn't use Giratina (I feel like it takes away the challenge a bit), but I guess that's your choice.

@herochild:  Even before factoring EVs, IVs, etc. into a Pokemon, the first, most important part of a team is to keep their leveling even.  If you don't, your team will surely fall apart. 

Nonetheless, I'm sure everyone has gone down the same path as you in their beginning.  I, too, am guilty of that. :)  Believe it or not, I've only been a competitive battler in full understanding within the last year.  I knew all of the factors, but I didn't begin incorporating them until about early June.  I remember my Crystal version and Sapphire versions.  I did the same thing as you, with Feraligatr and Swampert, respectively. :)  Just trust me, keep an even team, and you'll do fine. ;)

I'm goimg to wait a bit before I let my "core" evolve, so I can get them some good moves.

Yeah, and there goes your buffeter for Earthquake. :\  And Electivire was merely an example.  There are many other Physical Sweeper Pokemon out there that can learn moves like Ice Punch and Earthquake.  Take Medicham for example.

Darkrai? Dialga? Chansey? Chansey has such high defense that a LV 100 Hacked Craydilly that I made, one with every stat (HP, Def, Speed, SP Def, Atk, Sp Atk) at 999, lost to a LV 96 Chansey.

@DB:  I might have some suggestions for you, but I would need to see what else you're using, first.  

@DB:  Well, I wouldn't really call Blissey a Tank.  I would definitely call it the best Special Wall of any Pokemon, period, but not necessarily a Tank.  Its Special Attack isn't strong enough to warrant a Tank.  A BoltBeam combo or Seismic Toss can really throw a lot of Pokemon of guard, but it wouldn't warrant a Tank.

@RP:  Perhaps, but I don't need STAB.  If that were so, what would I need two other attacks for?  It's all in type coverage.  STAB isn't always required.  You need to pay more attention to covering EVs, IVs, Natures, Base Stats, and actually applying the most beneficial moves to a Pokemon to suit its environment.  In all honesty, unless I come to a neutral Pokemon, I never worry about STAB or not.  Yes, it's important, but when you weigh in all of the other factors, all else is more important.

Yes, you can get Leafeon pre-Elite Four. :)  Not in Diamond or Pearl (in-game only, anyway), but in Platinum, you can.  

If I might make a slight suggestion, you would much rather prefer to have an Infernape over a Rapidash.  Trust me, you'll be better off for it.  And Floatzel and Gastrodon also work as really good substitutes for Empoleon.  Just my two cents.  

Special Walls, not blockers. ;)  Blocker isn't a competitive term, but I guess I'm getting too technical here.  Anyway, the whole point of Blissey is to act as a buffeter for the team.  Its normal purpose is to hold off Pokemon that focus on Special Attack.  It also focuses on reinforcing and strengthening the team, which is why it has moves to use such as Aromatherapy.  And if a Physical Sweeper such as Lucario showed up, all you would have to do is switch out before it can do anything. (although you would have to be cautious of Pursuit)

Well, it depends.  If I'm preparing a competitive Pokemon, then yes, I breed for a specific Nature.  While some people think that its smart to always go with a Neutral Nature, that's actually a very big mistake.  Say, for example, I use a Special Sweeper.  Why, then, do I not use a Nature that can lower my Attack in return for raising my Special Attack?  The Attack stat won't be used anyway, and you can always afford to have a 10% bonus in a stat that is crucial to a Pokemon, so all competitive Pokemon should have a focused stat.  For example, I have a Gallade and an Electivire that I use for competitive purposes, both of whom are Physical Sweepers.  My Gallade, on one hand, has a Jolly Nature, which lowers his Special Attack in return for raising his Speed.  I'm not going to be using his Special Attack, and I can really use an uped Speed stat on Gallade, so I should pick an appropriate Nature for him to suit that.  Also, I have my Electivire with an Adamant Nature.  Adamant Nature increases Attack at the cost of Special Attack.  I think that one should explain itself.  

As for my normal, in-game team, I try not to worry about it, unless it absolutely hinders the Pokemon's purpose.  For example, I have two Pokemon on my team (Luxio and Monferno) who have Neutral Natures.  Surprisingly, on the first time, without actually thinking about it, it turns out that my Grotle got a good Nature, Adamant (+ATK,-SATK) to be exact.  However, I finally caught a Gligar last night, but I realized that it had a Bold Nature (+DEF,-ATK).  Defense is Gligar's/Gliscor's best stat, and I need focus to be put on Attack.  Thus, I can't accept Bold for a Nature.  Overall, though, while I do worry about Nature, when it comes to in-game Pokemon, I tend to not worry about it.

I can have an Ursaring w/ Avalanche and Earthquake. You don't have a Fighting Pokemon on your team, and since Ursaring has a base of 130 Attack, your team is in big trouble.

Dragonite is a flying type that can easily take out Medicham. And pkmn like that don't get STAB, which reduces the effectiveness of them.
And you said where's the fun in that a few posts ago... this team will be at the end of the game. I don't know what my team will be for the main storyline e.g. 8 gyms + elite four, but it may look like this:

Leafeon(can you get this pre elite four?)

I've got:water, steel, normal, flying, lightning, grass, and fire. plus and HM slave to put in to use a quick revive/potion of some sort. I normally don't need too many pkmn while I go through the journey. In fact, I played my bro's fire red version using only Blastoise and an HM slave. By the time I got to the elite four Blastoise was in the high 70s.

Ursaring is not an ice type or ground type... saying that I don't have a fighting pkmn on my team means nothing and you pointed that out yourself by putting two moves that are not the same type as your pkmn in the post. I think that answers back to you pretty well.

The only danger there is in doing it on Emerald is if you do it incorrectly.

Okay, this is how it goes.  Just know that this only works on Emerald.  Even though the Battle Tower existed on Ruby and Sapphire, it won't work. 

1.)  Go to the Battle Frontier, enter the Battle Tower, and walk up to the PC on the right. 
2.)  Make sure that you have the Pokemon in your party prior to you beginning this process. 
3.)  After walking up to the PC, deposit the Pokemon you want cloned.  It doesn't matter where you put them, what order you put them in, etc.  All that matters is that you deposit them. 
4.)  Once the Pokemon are deposited, save your game. 
5.)  After the game has saved, remove all of the Pokemon that you have cloned. 
6.)  After removing them, DON'T save your game.  I don't know what happens if you do, but I assume that this will merely cancel the glitch.  If you want the glitch to procede, don't save after removing them. 
7.)  Walk up to the lady at the register for link battling (the farthest right attendent), and talk to her. 
8.)  She asks you to select two Pokemon to battle with.  Accept this.  Just pick any two Pokemon.  Again, it doesn't matter. 
9.)  She will ask if she can save your game, and if it's okay.  Say yes. 
10.)  At this point, there will be a momentary pause in your game.  Don't freak out when this happens.  This pause is the glitch occuring.  The music will continue to play, but there will be two to three seconds where you can't do anything.  Don't worry, this is normal. 
11.)  The traditional save screen will pop up.  Do NOT save at this point.  Simply turn off your game.  Don't worry, you don't need to save.  Remember, you saved when the Pokemon were in the PC, and then the pause when talking to the lady?  This is basically a split of data, making the cloned Pokemon be in two places at once.  Turning off the game finalizes it. 
12.)  Turn your game on.  You will be in front of the attendent.  Walk over to the PC.  You will find the cloned Pokemon sitting in your PC.  Then, observe your party.  The cloned Pokemon will also be there. 

That's basically how it works.  You can also do this with up to five Pokemon at a time.  Just deposit the five at the same time, save, remove all five (they can be in any order, it won't matter), and follow the normal procedures.  If you want to clone items, simply attach them to the cloned Pokemon.  I hope this helps anyone who needed to learn it.

@RP:  BT and I are trying to make a general point.  It doesn't matter what Pokemon they are, what their type is, etc.  What matters in this particular situation is the fact that there are Pokemon out there that can easily outspeed and overpower your Pokemon with attacks that can be used against you.  You're focusing too much on simple STAB, and not worrying about what REALLY matters.  Before STAB, you need to focus on EVs, Natures, IVs, Base Stats (of moves and Pokemon), counter-strategies, supercedent planning, etc.  You worry too much about a simple factor in battle that can't play that much of a role in battle.  It makes a move 150% percent of its worth, but that only works for one move, maybe two, and that's it.  And at any rate, some Pokemon have stats that work in ways that might not even allow them, with all factors considered, to reasonably use a move that gains STAB in the first place!  STAB is exactly what it stands for:  Same Type Attack Bonus.  It's a bonus in combat, and nothing more.  When you look at the grand scale of things in their importance, STAB is relatively minimal when everything is put together.  

@RP:  STAB can have sway and influence, but again, while it's a factor, it simply gets overshadowed by all of the other factors.  You appear to go on and on about it as if it's the most important of all of the factors in power.  On the contrary; in my opinion, while it can have an effect, you should worry much more about the above things that I've listed.  And besides, while your Pokemon have somewhat respectable Defenses, the simple fact is that the focus for them in Attack.  You could perhaps pass Metagross off as a Tank, but that's about it.  At any rate, my Pokemon are just as competitive, if not moreso, in those areas, so I don't see the point you're trying to make.  

See, there you go again, worrying about types.  Just, for a second, think about and compare their stats.  Rapidash is horrid compared to Infernape stat-wise, and it's stats that truly make the single biggest factor in a battle, not types.  A Pokemon's type is certainly important, but if your Pokemon doesn't have well-rounded, perfected stats to build off of, your STAB-focused attacks are rendered useless.  You focus too much on simple typing and STAB, and not enough on the true competitive aspects.  

Well, Blocker in general could mean taking any kind of attack easily.  It isn't clear.  And I'm aware that any Pokemon can switch out, I'm just making the point that I can easily evade your Fighting-type in doing so.  

Then why would you ask if it doesn't apply to you? :-\  And competitive battling calls for more than simply "being good".  The competitive battlefield calls for nothing less than perfection, and this lack of care for Natures, etc. gives me insight into your keen interest in STAB.  It almost appears to me as if it's your only true insight into the competitive playing field, which shouldn't be so.  In the grand scale of it all, STAB just isn't everything, plain as that.

At the moment,as i type,i am surfing towards Voictory Road. My Pokemon are all level 48,although Giratina and Electabuzz are getting close to 49. What will happen is i will spend the next week beefing up to around level 60,then pwn the Elite Four. Teir Pokemon are tougher atack-wise,so i will need to be careful. For example,Lucian now has a level 59 Gallade(have a guidebook).

So...do you guys think i shuld wait to beat the Elite Four until I evolve Electabuzz,or just go along with him? I mean,i want to hang on to the higher speed as long as i can.

@herochild:  Torterra is a very good Pokemon.  You just have to know how to use him correctly.  Be sure to definitely beef up his Attack.  Torterra is the perfect example of a Tank.  His offensive and defensive capabilities are really good, but he's slow as crud.  I find a moveset spread of Wood Hammer, Synthesis/Leech Seed, Stone Edge, and Earthquake to do well with Torterra.

You know the Move Relearner in Pastoria City?  Go to him with a Heart Scale, and ask him to reteach a move to Torterra.  At the very top, you'll see Wood Hammer.  This is the only way for Torterra to learn Wood Hammer, and Turtwig and Grotle are incapable of learning Wood Hammer.  This is a special deal just for Torterra. ;)

Hmm...I don't really think so.  I think that at least Pale Spheres are harder to come by.  I've found dozens and dozens of Heart Scales in the Underground on my Diamond version. :-\

Your friend is lying. I have the guidebook, and it says that he'll give out any kind of ball except Master Balls and Premiere Balls. ;)

Well, if you needed me to, I could teach you how to understand and control EVs. :)  It actually isn't as complicated as it seems.  Of all of the factors to make the perfect Pokemon, not only is it the biggest and most important, but it's also the least time consuming, if youIn fact, I've only been as understanding about the metagame as I am since last June.  Before that point, I understood just as much about it as you do. :)  It just takes a little bit of practice, and you'll have it down in no time. :)

@DB:  Yes, I do.  I just need to know what else you want to use, first. :)

Okay, Leafeon kinda fell behind during the Snowpoint gym and the Galactic fight, so its now only lv 43, while Empoleon and Rapidash are lv 47, and Luxray is lv 48. I have Giratina, but it is currently in Other Forme, which I dislike. That means I have room for two other pkmn to sub in. I'm not sure what to use, although I think Rhydon/Rhyperior would work well, seeing as how it would add tw more types to my arsenal.

And where do I find the item to evolve Electabuzz? I got the Magmarised, Reaper Cloth, and both Porygon upgrades but I'm missing the electric thingy.

The 8th gym is currently really annoying, but that probably has something to do with my team's lacking in ability to fight off electric moves...

@herochild and @DB:  Not to mention that Rock Smash is a completely different type all together, being that of the Fighting-type.

The base power of Rock Smash is a mesely 40.  I don't see how you could win everything with just Rock Smash.

I'm assuming that you mean that Electric doesn't do much to Grass, right? 

I don't see why you would resort to having Torterra use Rock Smash there.  You should have just had him use Earthquake and rip the opposition apart. :-\

@RP:  I still insist that Rapidash is inferior to Infernape.  It takes a reasonably good trainer to know how to use him properly, so one can't really say that he's weak without being fully involved in the metagame. 

And Rhyperior is really up in the air.  I'll definitely agree that it has outstanding HP, Attack, and Defense, but if I get a Special Sweeper out onto the field that has a super-effective attack, your Rhyperior is left wide open.  Now, I'll give that it does have Solid Rock, but it has such crippled Special Defense and Speed that it can be moved right around.  Just keep an eye on those two stats, and you should be fine. 

And again, I personally think you worry too much about simple typing and STAB.  Just focus on the movesets, stats, and strategies, and then worry about the little things like that.  The other things I've thrown out there are more important. 

And as for your tough time with the eighth Gym, use a Ground-type Pokemon, particularly one with Earthquake.  That can help take care of many of your problems.

For an Electivire, I would go with a standard Physical Sweeper.  Go with an Adamant Nature, and give it 252 ATK/252 SPD/4 HP.  That's usually the way to go with a good Electivire. ;) 

@herochild:  Beefing up a Pokemon's level isn't necessarily a bad thing.  I'm just saying that maneuvering of EVs could be beneficial, but by no means do you have to do it that way.  I just see it as an easier way to get done faster. ;)

@RP - For your Pre-E4 team, your Pokemon team still has a Ground issue. Try getting a Flying type like Staraptor/Altaria/etc. as to avoid Ground attacks. You could try Garchomp for a spin, as it is legitimate Pre-E4, however is banned in competitive play*. I wouldn't suggest Rhyperior will only add to your Ground weakness, but if you really want it, get a Protector and another DS and friend so it'll evolve into a Rhyperior, which has tremendous Attack/Defense/HP, but try to avoid Special Sweepers. But a Rhydo would be Okay too. Instead, try Hippowdon out.
   These are my suggestions, so if you don't want to follow them, you don't have to.  

* In early D/P play, Garchomp was preferred by many players since it was a powerhouse in almost every stat. However, since it was so powerful it swept through many teams, it was moved to the Uber tier. Flygon, who sat in the shadows of Garchomp,regained popularity and is now OU since it is the only Ground/Dragon type left. Other than Attack and Speed, its other stats are not so hot, but has a versatile movepool.

Okay, what nature(s) should I try for for the following pkmn:

And I've recently seen the one absolutely horrible thing about my Rapidash: it's defence is the worst of my entire team and it can't take a big hit...
And to train for the E4 I decided on a reckless and costly method. I keep only Rapidash and Leafeon in my party and go from there. It did have some effect. Rapidash is now level 61 and can easily take out Aaron, Flint and the psychic guy, with Leafeon being used as a wall of some sort so I can revive/heal Rapidash as necessary. Sadly this method won't work very well with Empoleon and Luxray as they can't use super effective and STAB moves against the first two E4 people and Luxray can't do much else...

Anywho, I have the stuff to evolve Magmar, Electabuzz, Rhydon, Porygon(x2). Where can I find a Murkrow? or do I need a diamond version to trade it from?

Murkrow, Misdreavus, Stunky, and Glameow aren't available in Platinum. You need to trade it from FRLG/DP in order to get them. I'd rather you save the evolving objects for a better Pokemon.

If you want a Hippowdon, you have to go to the Ruin Maniac's cave for Hippopotas. They only appear 5% of the time if you don't catch Unown. Just catch 10 Unown so that your encounter rate with Hippopotas will increase to 10%, along with a bigger cave. IF you caught all the Unown, Hippopotas will appear 20% of the time.

Using only Leafeon, Empoleon and Rapidash I beat two of Cynthia's pkmn. Garchomp is gonna be really hard to beat since I don't have an ice type, and since Empoleon and Rapidash can barely hit Garchomp(rapidash has no good moves to use against Garchomp and Empoleon is too slow...)
I need to train Leafeon a lot more so it can take out Garchomp... or train Giratina...

I haven't attempted yet,but i am sure i would cream the Bug guy. I am currently filling anything i missed in the "seen" category of my Pokedex,so when i record all the Pokemon the Elite Four have,my Pokedex will be full and i can upgrade immediatly. I have everyone but Azelf,who i am attempting to catch as i type. I got lucky with Uxie,not so  much here....

Azelf has a capture rate of 3, so catching it is still a pain even though it has a sliver of HP left.
Dialga/Palkia is very easy of a capture rate of 30, which is the capture rate of a Chatot and Chansey. This number is ridiculously high for a legendary.
However, in Platinum, Giratina has a capture rate of 3, so it'll be a challenge to catch.

@BT:  Oh, I see.  I'll have to think about that one for a second.  

And as to what I was saying earlier, I'd like to make some slight changes.  My knowledge about Milotic is a little rusty, so I went to check up on it for this discussion.  Milotic's Special Attack is definitely above average, and its HP isn't horrible, either.  It's Defense can actually be quite solid, should it be executed in the right way.  Its base stat is kind of shakey, but with the right Nature (I would hope you have Bold, but I don't know), and the right EV application, as well as good IVs, it can actually turn out to be okay.  And with Marvel Scale, Milotic walking in on something like Toxic, Thunder Wave, or Will-O-Wisp isn't without benefit, although you have to tread carefully with Toxic.  In all reality, it's really the Speed that is its downfall.  You're all ready putting effort into its Defense, which is good.  Its Special Attack and Special Defense are good and are taken care of.  I would definitely suggest, having read over it some more, putting the other 252 EVs into either Speed or HP.  Everything else will be taken care of.  Sadly, Milotic's Speed is possibly low enough in base to the point where it may not be worth attempting to recover, so I would definitely suggest attempting to make it one big Tank.  However, Speed is still a viable option.  I would put it in one of those two for sure.  I would reccommend HP to make it completely sound, but it's up to you.  

Hmm...The last move is a toughie.  Hypnosis is usually a big one with Milotic, but I guess that's out of the question. :-\  Well, I suppose Toxic is always a viable option.  It can certainly wear down on opponents that Milotic would have difficulty dealing with, particularly opposing Water-types.  And you know, if you wanted to toy with your opponents, you could just shift things up completely and go with a ReSTalk Milotic.  The Sleep factor would raise its Defense, and it could constantly keep its HP up.  ReSTalk Milotic is, in my opinion, the best method for a Tank, if that's what you're going for.  If you don't want to change things from the method you've listed, and if you're looking to make it a team-support Pokemon, you can also incorporate Light Screen into your movepool.  It'll give your Pokemon some defense from the kinds of Special Attacks that might get thrown their way in a switch out, particularly Thunderbolt and Grass Knot.  It really just depends on what you're going for.  If not Hypnosis, then I would suggest Toxic, so as to incapacitate the opponent in a few turns.  Hypnosis is usually preferable, but Toxic can also work well.

   Once you find Feebas, catch as many Feebas as you can.

@BT:  You know, it's funny.  In Diamond, I chucked two Quick Balls at Dialga, because I knew of its high catch rate, and on the second try, I caught it. :)  I've always told people to not use their Master Ball on Dialga or Palkia, but people tend to not listen to me. >__>  

You really got it Bold?  That's good. :)  That's the best Nature to get for a Milotic, at least competitively.  Just work on what I mentioned, and you'll have a pro Milotic in no time. :)  

I've seen you around a lot here and there, but I never realized it was you. :)  
Is this for a competitive team?  If so, I would personally ditch the Magmortar.  The other two perform fine competitively, but Magmortar is lackluster.  He barely fits into Borderline.  His stats aren't really as good as some other choices are.  I really would suggest having Infernape over him, but I guess it's your choice. :-\

Part of the reason why I suggested Infernape over Rapidash.  Both have horrid defenses, but unlike Rapidash, Infernape has incredible Attack, Special Attack, and Speed.  If you're a good trainer who knows how to use him correctly, I honestly consider him to be just as threatening, if not moreso, as Electivire or Rhyperior.  Rapidash can't compare to Infernape in long-term capabilities, simple as that. :-\  
Yeah...You should never have to resort to doing such a method.  Bring your team together on your runs.  

Part of the problem that I've seen with your team is that there really isn't a lot of good synergy between them.  Could you post the Pokemon you're using, as well as their Natures and movesets?  I'll try to see what's going wrong.

No wonder you've been having such difficulty.  Your movesets are far beyond messed up.  You've got two Fire-type attacks on Rapidash, two Water-type attacks on Empoleon, and three Grass-type attacks on Leafeon, with the last being Last Resort, which I highly disagree upon in use.  Your team has great potential, but you're going about it in a very bad manor.  I believe you do all of this based on STAB, but believe me, this is a really bad way to go about raising a team.  Let me give you some advice for these three:  

First off, never use more than one move of a kind of type, at least for attacking purposes.  For example, don't put Brine and Surf on Empoleon.  It's unnecessary.  

Starting with Empoleon, I'd like to point out that you're attempting to use Empoleon for direct attacking purposes.  Unfortunately, Empoleon is really meant more for defending than attacking.  However, if you really want to be serious about battling purposes, then I'll suggest a moveset here.  Here's a good Special Sweeper Empoleon:  

Surf
Ice Beam
Grass Knot
Agility

Agility helps to make up for its lackluster Speed, making it a viable choice for a Special Sweeper.  Surf acts as the main form of STAB, and Ice Beam can take care of pesky Dragon-types (such as Garchomp), as well as Grass-types that might otherwise absorb Surf and Grass Knot for little damage.  Grass Knot is somewhat of a filler, but it helps to deal with heavier opponents, as well as opponents that might otherwise turn Surf and Ice Beam away, namely opposing Water-types.  In my opinion, if you transform your Empoleon into a Special Sweeper, it'll become the main contender against Cynthia's Garchomp.  

Next up is Rapidash.  The problem with Rapidash is that not only does it lack a wide array of good moves in its movepool, but it also has below average stats.  It has decent Attack and Speed, but that's all it has going for it.  Infernape is a far better choice.  Infernape has better stats overall, and has a far wider movepool than Rapidash.  Nonetheless, I'll make of this what I can:

Flare Blitz
Megahorn
Iron Tail
Return/Double Kick

Flare Blitz is obviously there for a good STAB, but it should be used in extreme moderation, due to Rapidash's horrid HP (HP is its weakest stat).  Megahorn offers a good physical move that can strike down many opponents.  The lack of recoil is good, but it does come at the cost of Accuracy, which is unpreferable.  However, with Megahorn, the benefits outweigh the negatives, and unfortunately, it's the next best thing to work with on Rapidash.  And if we're having to come down to conversation like that, then it's evident that it has a bad movepool.  Iron Tail is there to help take oncoming Rock-types on, but again, that depends on if you can land the attack.  The last move deals with filler.  Return is a decent physical attack, and can help take on Water-types and Flying-types that Rapidash would have difficulty fighting.  Double Kick could further deal with Steel-types and Rock-types, but they've already been dealt with, so I would suggest Return instead.  

In all honesty, as I've been saying time and again, Infernape is a far better choice, but I suppose it's your opinion. :-\  

Now on to Leafeon:  

Swords Dance
Leaf Blade
Return
X-Scissor/Synthesis

Now, Leafeon has decent Attack and Speed, and has a phenomenal Defense Stat.  However, its other stats are quite lackluster.  Thus, you need to either make Leafeon a Baton Passer (all Eeveelutions act as Baton Passers) or a Swords Dance Sweeper (a Physical Sweeper with Swords Dance to reinforce its Attack).  Because this is an in-game team, I would suggest a Swords Dance Sweeper.  Swords Dance obviously boosts his Attack up to be quite competitive.  Leaf Blade acts as a great STAB move, and has a high CH bonus, as well.  You shouldn't always depend on/hope for the CH to kick in, but when it does, it'll pay off nicely for your Leafeon.  Return, again, acts as a great physical attack that can reach a base power of 108.  The last move acts as filler.  Synthesis can act as decent healing move, while X-Scissor helps to deal with Psychic-types, but more notably against opposing Grass-types.  It's really up to you.  

I'm just surprised that you would make a mistake like that.  You shouldn't be having a Pokemon with many of their attacks being the same type. :-\  

What would you suggest as a moveset for a Weavile?

My current 4 pkmn team is as such:

Empoleon lv 71: Surf, Brine, Drill Peck, Flash Cannon
Leafeon lv 72: Return, Leafblade, Grass Knot, Magical leaf
Rapidash lv 71: Flare Blitz, Megahorn, Bounce, Stomp
Weavile lv 63: Night Slash, Faint Attack, Slash, Icy Wind

BT, I haven't forgotten your input, just haven't had the time to work on it. Forget about the drill peck comment, as I realised after I posted that Drill peck is physical and not special, so that's gone. I'm trying to get Swords dance for Leafeon, and I'm deciding on a last move for it otherwise. I'm pretty happy with Rapidash, although I want to try something other than Bounce on it.
I'm still leveling up Weavile, but I don't know where to get it Ice Punch...
I'm also gonna start to level up my Electivire that I got yesterday, along with my Rhyperior and Magmortar. I have Giratina in Origin forme now, but I'm not gonna use it, or Palkia, or Dialga or anyone else Uber.
Who would you suggest to complete my team? Try to keep Weavile and Leafeon in it, and I do have access to a lv 60 Infernape from my pearl version.

try a........Steel/Dragon type. Your team needs an overall staller,along with some good,consistent,power. Try Steelix or Gabite,maybe even immigrate Salemence.

For Electivire, go with Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Cross Chop, and Earthquake.  Give an Expert Belt as a hold item, because it hits 13 of the 17 types super-effectively, so capitalize on that.  As for Gallade, ditch Leaf Blade for Close Combat.  Even if Leaf Blade is super-effective, it'll still have the same power of an even neutral Close Combat.  Close Combat is far better.  It has STAB, it hits a far wider variety of Pokemon hard, and has a great base power to begin with.  The other moves are good, but switch Leaf Blade out for Close Combat.

Working on Stark Mountain. I will soon have Heatran.

Also,i am training a Shellgon. Decided it would be better than Togekiss.

Also,for the Salamence vs. Ice type problem,one word-Flamethrower.

Togekiss uses Aura Sphere once.
Heatran has almost no HP.
Heatran uses power-boosters and beefed up attacks.
I attempt to stop them with Togekiss and Vaporeon.
I run out of Ultra Balls.

I enjoy battling the Gym leaders at Survival Area. I narrowly beat Riley(you can also battle trainers you once teamed up with) and,coincidentally,he has a Salamence.

I was definately going to listen to your advice, since what you've advised for me so far has been very good(such as Return on Leafeon and other movesets). Also, since Air Slash is Special, it would make sence for Togekiss and it has flinching abilities. I wouldn't have thought of Thunder Wave, but It is good a good choice.
Hustle is a dumb effect for Toge-anything, as they have aweful attack... lowering accuracy is just dumb.
I'll probably put Leftovers on Togekiss(BTW, where do I find this?)

You can find Leftovers on wild Munchlax, or as a random hold object if your Pokemon has the Ability "Pickup" and is somewhere between Levels 81-100. Or you could transfer one from Emerald.

If you're going with Paraflinch Togekiss, it really doesn't matter when to evolve it.

I beat the Battle Frontier Brain from the castle.
The order of his pkmn went: Staraptor, Houndoom, Empoleon.
Electivire beat Staraptor, then lost to Houndoom.
Togekiss beat Houndoom, then lost to Empoleon.
Leafeon beat Empoleon.

For the fighting/steel thing,i reccomend Lucario. Good all-around,has moves with power and Accuracy,etc. Aura Sphere is a great move to know,and i also suggest Dark Pulse and Psychic.

Oh,and the Ice thing,you will probably want Froslass. GREAT speed.

You guys mind defining "sweeper" and the like? I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure.

Go to the GTS to trade. Just breed your current starter Pokemon to get its basic form (Piplup, in that case). Then, offer it onto Wi-Fi for a starter Pokemon of your choice (I recommend you go with a Turtwig or Chimchar rather than Torterra or Monferno or a Female of a species). Overnight, someone will trade with you.

Also there are:
~ Phazers - These Pokemon use Whirlwind or Roar to prevent opposing Pokemon to set up stat boosting moves (Calm Ming, Swords Dance, etc.) A famous Phazer would be Skarmory.
~ Rapid Spin Blockers - Basically any Ghost type Pokemon, as they can "block Rapid Spin" just like their name since Rapid Spin is a Normal move. An example of a Rapid Spin Blocker would be Gengar.
~ Baton Passers - These Pokemon have a Stat Boosting move along with Baton Pass to "pass" Stat Boosting moves to another Pokemon to accompany sweeping. An example would be Jolteon or Umbreon.

Essentially, the GTS is a breeding ground for hackers.

@ddude - Sudowoodo I think are found in Route 221 in Platinum. For Happiny, you hatch the egg a Traveler gave you in Hearthome City. Or a Breeder in Route 209.
